Starts out strong, with good ideas, but kind of loses itself in what is basically a weird drama between friends turned enemies that feels like it doesn't make much sense. The ending is also... pretentious without substance. Overall I'm still glad I read it all the way through.

(As a side note: the only scanlation available is incredibly obnoxious with excessive margin commentary and it's very unlikely such a work will get an official English release.)

This series started out really interesting and thought-provoking. The initial concept isn't unique - character who's been 'abandoned' by society wants to see it changed - but the relationship between Makoto and Yuuki was the first thing that really pulled me in. I even thought it was really interesting to see Yuuki abiding by Makoto's yearning to not kill despite doing acts of terrorism.

However, as the story progressed, it really felt like the author lost the story's initial direction, and as the chapters continued on, the story started to feel more pointless. It felt like the story stopped asking the thought-provoking questions or statements that I enjoyed from the early chapters. Characters who were introduced later felt two dimensional and I'm still trying to remember what became of the first female Inquirerer. I think she just disappeared from the story?

All in all, I am happy I read the story because it really did have interesting ideas and I feel like it's given me a lot to think about when writing my own stories, even if most of the thought-provoking aspects were in the beginning. However, as an overall story, unless you're really into antiheroes and terrorists, I wouldn't recommend this one. Even then, if you really like solid stories, give this one a pass too. If you don't mind your stories a little more whimsical and organic in development (where things introduced earlier on might not be brought back or characters might only serve one purpose for their lack of character later on) you may enjoy it.

Finally over.
It was heavily deteriorated over time, and the ending was utter garbage.

It's about time I am finally able to read a manga about the Heavy Truth of the Excession.

I love Mori´s manga in general so this one is also a no brainer. From a somewhat slow beginning (his other work share that problem) a gripping tale of terrorism and social revolt emerges that doesn´t focus on the typical goody good two shoes but 2 conflicted individuals with relatable goals an whishes for the future who stand at the brink of darkness and one man who goes to far in his quest for global justice and dooms them all.
The Anti-American agenda the series pushes is also a nice change of pace and actually makes sense due to the main characters lives as terrorists and doesn´t come off as a hate crime.
Most manga with a political agenda can´t say that about themselves i might add. I just which the lead wasn´t a high schooler but teens have the most hate against the world so who knows and the female characters could use more edge too. Sure they are lively and charming and not empty sex dolls like a lot of their seinen sibling but they lack the complexity of their male counterparts and come off as the perfect girlfriend from a 80s movie. I frankly expect better as his Suicide Island which i also reviewed (9,5/10) is different it that regard and i can´t recommend it high enough as a whole and his debut work Holyland (8/10) though shared the same problems to a degree.
The series is nearly flawless besides these grievances and the art is very moody and even experimental in certain parts so fans of Urasawa who is the king of suspense, Akira (10/10), Akumetsu (8,5/10), Death Note (9,5/10) and adult focused Bande Dessinees in general will eat this up. I sure hope his winning streak will continue into the future and would also like to point out that the author is a story consultant and friend to Mira so fellow Berserk friends are warmly invited and if this isn´t the highest compliment i can give to a manga that i don´t know what is.
Update: The ending could have used more pages but it is memorable. Strong parallels to Watchmen are undeniable though.

Blaming government is too damn mainstream. Lets blame the people instead. I have mixed feelings about it. The idea is nice, the 'superpower' ain't that bad either and there's even creative explanation for it (That damn quantum trend... maybe saying creative is a bit too much... maybe it's not... like I said before, mixed feelings ), there are cool characters upon introduction, but as the story went on they had their 'cheesy' moments. The art... Well I have red 'Hollyland' before (a work by the same author), so I am kind of used to the art (yes, I am saying you might have to get used to it... ). But to call it bad is to confess in being a hypocrite, because art is art. Either you understand it or you don't, there's no such a thing as bad or good (preferences is not something you should use when passing judgement when it comes to manga or anything else if we are at it, but then again who am I to tell you what you should or should not, right?).
Anyway, it's a decent read but it didn't excite me that much. So it can have my biased 7.

I want to like this series, I really do but I can't.

The story starts off fairly promising. Teenage kid gets superpower and decides to try and change the world; similar to Death Note. And for the first few chapters, it seems like the story will be well thought out and in-depth regarding the nature of revolution and social change.

Except it doesn't go anywhere and gradually becomes shallow and immature.

After a while the idea of using violence to cause a revolution simply feeds into itself without reason. Dislike a politician? Kill him! A building constructed with taxpayer dollars without popular opinion? Destroy it! People who think that the current system is good enough? Ignore them!

The story drags things out by teaming the main character up with extremists who are even MORE violent and radical than he is. The superpowered main character isn't the only superpowered character. When the main character begins to question his motivation, hes encouraged to continue his actions... on the basis of a cult mentality of "oneness".

its too cool but this is only the first volume. i need to know what happens next! i love all the other works by this mangaka. all his leads are quite, shy, withdrawn, depressed character - they are real and different from all those genki guys. i have great hope for this manga to develop into an epic reflective story

i love the idea but they gave the guy way too little power seriously it takes days for the buildings to collapse and they r suppose to change japan? too weak to be better he needs some power boost

Well ive read until chapter 8 (theres no more lol), the idea that the author its trying to say that we need to get our traditions again or something like that nvm, its good, the art its no so special maybe want to give a feeling to "real life characters" hope its gets better with time. But the story ts interesting.
