I felt that the title really helped set the stage for this one-shot. The pages are steeped in melancholy and the helplessness of men in the face of inevitable change, being pulled along by fate and circumstances. Short but really good character studies of Okita Souji and Kondo Isami. The little glimpse at Choshu's Yoshida Shouin was masterfully done too, and sensei really managed to bring out his zealousness.
I highly recommend if you're interested in that period of Japanese history.

it is a lot to take in. there is too many names and words and phrases specifically japanese you can get lost. however you can feel the tone of the story, and that is already enough.
*sigh*

Actually, I loved it. The art is realistic, the plot perfect for an oneshot and the characters make me think: Yeah, they could have been like that.
Yukimura Makoto always makes interesting stuff that is worth remembering (Vinland saga) and even if "Goodbyes are coming soon" is far inferior to his current work, it's still a great oneshot I reccomend to everybody slightly knowledgeable/interested in Japanese history. I also think you should especially read it if you've read Kaze Hikaru Because we've got in both cases Kondo and Soji ^^ And it's fun to compare them! The better (and shorter) one is probably without question!
