i was so surprised when i came here to see the rating, for me it's have been a really fun experience reading it, the story is good, the character's are interesting, some real funny and not forced joke, no useless ecchi, and surprisingly good resolution in each arc.
so yeah, im really recommend you to read it, for me this is a GREAT manga. (some say that this is below expectation since the mangaka's previous work Rurouni Kenshin was good but i haven't read it so pardon me).

Dont listen to those underated reviews below, most of them dont know what they are talking about and only rated that way because they liked Rurouni Kenshin better. Or because they thought the plot was dragged on, which I think is very inaccurate considering it contains a lot in those 10 volumes and in my opinion, I think it was rushed a lot, which is a major but only weak point of this manga. I am not going to elaborate on that since it will be too spoiler, go read it!
Anyways here are it's good points:
Characters, Tokiko is probably my favorite character out of all the manga I have read (yes even over Berserk or Vinland or any of those other ones). She is amazing unlike the those other flat girls evrywhere else whom only serve as damsel in distress or undeveloped side love interests or whatnot; she actually have a personality going on, she develops, she evolve as a human being within the context of the situation. The other characters within this series should not be overlook either; they are extremely unique and gives the story a very enjoyable feel to it.
Plot, I guess somewhat original ideas, still cliche though. Came her for the characters and there interactions, not really plot. But still it was good in the average fighting manga feel to it, and you will enjoy it. Like I mentioned above, the plot is rushed though, with the manga taking over a span of around 2ish months (wtf?? I know )
Art, well, each to their own.
So overall, to summarize, Buso Renkin is a pretty good manga. Got great characters and imagination (even if they are damn weird), the only weak point is its plot; it's cliche. But if your overlook that single point, I think you are going to have a great time and laugh or wtf your ass off at how crazy some of the things in the manga! (insert inspirational comment that makes you go read it, and since I cant think of any, just go read it)
And yes I know this is long and I suck at reviews :[

<Some unintentional spoiler ahead. Read at your own risk.>
After reading Rurouni Kenshin, a truly great manga, Buso Renkin falls below my expectation. The concepts of homunculus and alchemy are ridiculous, and that Kazuki becomes so powerful in a period of few months is hard to believe. It's different with Kenshin from RK, who is a strong fighter, because Kenshin is well into his twenties (despite his young looks) and has been training for the Battousai for quite a while. Kenshin also has a very strong master (Hiko Seijuro) who has trained him hard.
The ending in which Kazuki and the black homunculus transport to the moon to fight each other is too convinience. We don’t even get to see them fight on the moon, only that Kazuki has been gone for while. I feel that the ending is wrapped up for the mangaka’s convinience and on the dot for his deadline to finish the series.
There aren’t a lot of character development either, with the exception of the butterfly guy (Papillon), who is extremely flamboyant and gaudy, in both personality and costume. For the most part, I like Tokiko because of her calm demeanor, but her character is pretty much sidelined by the development of Kazuki, who is admittedly nice and sweet, but also kind of bland and uninteresting. Besides Papillon, the supporting characters are easily forgettable.
The art, on the other hand, is pretty much the same as RK, with very angular faces and bodies, but I don’t mind that at all. Overall, it is quick and fun read, just don’t take it too seriously and don’t have too much expectations for it, like I have.

I dont know why everyone bashes it, it was a pretty decent 10v manga. The endings alittle rushed but the author did everything the way he wanted so it was a nice ending. All and all its a good afternoon read if your looking for a shounen to kill time while you wait on releases. Note it does have quite a bit of comic relief enough that Id add comedy to the genres

I started reading this because it was by the same mangaka of Rurouni Kenshin, which in my opinion is pretty good. So I expected such from a later manga by the same mangaka. Didn't turn out too well.
Like others have said, I think Watsuki attempted to do a romance comedy. I think it was a failed attempt if you ask me.
The art seems like it changed in this too. Usually you say "Wow, the art has gotten a lot better in these series" but I have to say it got worse. Watsuki started to draw really straight...like everything. The butterfly mask, the faces.
I don't recommend this at all, and it is now on my unfinished list. Might pick it up later just to see how it ends.

I think Busou Renkin is a good series. It has an interesting plot, with very defined characters. I read the whole series and while I think that papillon was kind of childish, I think that the rest of the characters are interesting and deep.
disappointing

I expected more from mangaka of kenshin. The story and characters are so uninspired and cliched. If he didn't want us to compare it to kenshin, he wouldn't put a gigantic scar in the middle of the main heroine's face LMAO. I don't mind girls with scars... just not on the face... not sexy >_<

While this series isn't bad, I can't say that it's exceptionally good either. It's really hard to get into the series since there's nothing that really stands out and holds your attention. Bluntly put, it's boring. In the end, I don't think it's anything special.
