Good till the end
Hapi Mari isn't one of those romance mangas that are boring as hell. It's one were you see the ups and downs of a marriage. It isn't one of those that are over dramatized. It truly feels like how a marriage would be in real life. Chiwa may be an idiot but she tries her best in anything she does. so fed up with the yelling stuff.
Crybaby Chiwa who cry more often plus the fights and shouting and the slap she received from her husband twice...
Forget all those things above and this manga would fine enough with 5 volumes.
I like how the love wasn't instant, and it took some time before the main characters were an actual wife and husband. It does help that Hokuto is pretty good looking. I enjoyed the story and I always wanted to read more all the time; I even wanted to read it twice. I also enjoyed the love between Hokuto and Chiwa; I could tell they had a genuine love for each other and that's important to me. Even though the ending was good, I wish we'd seem a bit more (like maybe a few years after the wedding ceremony). The only thing I didn't like was how the Chiwa cried in almost every volume. That got annoying. But I guess she made up for it for doing something a bit bold. She is still a weak character, but I don't mind her that much now.

Let me ask you this, cause I am non-asian. Is it against Japanese traditions, life style, upbringing to ask straight forward questions? The synopsis seemed attractive and entertaining so I started reading. Then it did start getting repetitive like stated by others. After a while it started getting exhausting to keep reading. I have however this sickness I have to finish the manga I have started so I keep reading. At least the art is fine. Chiwa was simply cute with her ditzy way at the beginning. Now she is just annoying. As another character in the manga states, all she does is cry and I wonder if she even goes to the bathroom without speaking first to/getting the permission from Hokuto. I understand, accept even expect a little; a certain level of ditzyness from the heroin of a shoujo manga but when a 23 year old woman breaks down at every turn and bump I suspect mental retardation. And when a 23 year old woman makes her husband her sole purpose of living, source of happiness I recommend urgent counseling. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you shouldn't be devoted to your husband nor that his happiness is not important. But if it is the SOLE reason for your being then you are neither cute nor smart. Thus my exhaustion and annoyance with this Manga. Also, the guy is not 100% in the head either but I am too exhausted of this manga to go into detail. If you can forgo of logic and have time on hand with which you do not know what to start, it is an ok manga with decent art to waste time.

As many before me said this manga started so well and it lasted till maybe 20-something chapter. After that it became repetitive and for me personally boring. I love how relationship between Chiwa and Hokuto developed and i loved their fights but i think some were unecessary.Chiwa at start was really awesome and she did alot of things for Hokuto. Its funny how at start she believed him when he said he wont cheat but later on doubted him all the time.In the latest chapters she kept crying and doubting him which was annoying me so much i wanted to slap her...so yeah,i also think that Hokuto didnt do anything wrong when he slaped her twice.Just like she did to him because of words he said, she deserved it for what she said to him.Now i dont support violence but you cant put what happened here to that folder. And anyway when we women are so up on being equal in everything, why cant man slap a woman when she hurts him? One more thing,in latest chapters it felt like Hokuto apologized too much. Now about art i adore, clean and big,not confusing Oh and about sex...for me it blended nicely into story,it was sweet and at moments hot XD
All in all it was fun read and i recommend to people who like bit of comedy and romance with some sex scenes mixed in

A Bit Serious and Lacked Romanticness
In the start of the volume, i kinda like the comedic romance between them. But as the chapters progress, the plot become overly dramatic and the male protagonist was always missing in action and not by the girls side. It lacks the doki doki feeling which makes my heart skip a bit. The sex was a bit unappealing. The foreplay they make was like of those in the yaoi manga. I'm not insulting yaoi manga, in fact i'm a hardcore fan of them. I just thought that the girl's face when they have sex is a distasteful, its not erotic and the girl seems always in pain.
I had my doubts about this manga and even after reading it there were some things I just didn't like, but, overall, I think it was really good.
My list of dislikes is short: I think the story was repetitive with somethings--they argued about the same thing so many times, but I suppose a real marriage would be similar.
And Chiwa's constant crying about EVERYTHING. I don't remember a chapter where she wasn't tearing up. In the beginning I thought Chiwa would be a badass that didn't take crap from anyone, but the moments where Chiwa actually reverted back to that girl that threw a drink on Hokuto were few and far between. The rest is filled with fights, running away, and then making up.
But I guess that kept it interesting. I liked everything else: From the drama within the Mamiya family, to Hokuto's past, I actually like that he works so much and I can't understand how Chiwa can be so sensitive about that. He's a freaking president of a company! He can't entertain her everyday! I like the exs although I feel like Chiwa had way too many admirers and she didn't feel like it was a big deal, but she just wants to roll in a ball and die when she finds out Hokuto had an ex-girlfriend.
I like how everything was wrapped up, although I wish I could have seen an extra of life after the baby. I can't even imagine what that would be like.
A few minor annoyances that were usually resolved by the end of the chapter and sometimes the characters became a little annoying at which point they deserved a good slap. There were moments I laughed, cried, screamed and said "That's it, I'm done with this," just to go on reading it again.
Overall, it was a really good read, I read it all in one sitting(with breaks to stop myself from throwing my computer)and I'm sure I'll revisit this story in the future.

I've noticed a lot of people talking about domestic abuse issues with this manga, particularly about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Hokuto slapping Chiwa
I read through the first 34 chapters of this series years ago, so I cannot judge this part of it much since I don't remember that happening, however I have my own fish to fry when it comes to domestic abuse in this series, at least what I have seen towards the end:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
What really disturbs me about what I've read is that there was a scene that can be classified as rape in one of the last chapters. Chiwa clearly said "Not yet" and "No", but Hokuto blatantly disregarded her, saying that he wasn't going to listen and forcing himself into her when she wasn't ready yet. I don't care if they're in love or have been married or whatnot, if the person says no, YOU STOP. There are no excuses for what he did; if he's that horny that he just can't slow down, he can always use his hand and some tissues. The fact that he kept pressuring her for sex made me really uncomfortable too, but that may be for more personal reasons. But passing off rape as romance is not cool.
The relationship between the two characters is really interesting. It's a love/hate relationship and I think that's a very realistic view of marriage. I loved the plot and the character development. You really get the feeling of "growing together" in this manga and I like it's pretty typical but not overly gushy! I loved Chiwa's strong and hard working personality but I also loved her weak side because it just shows how human she is. Hokuto is definitely one I had to adjust to though. I didn't like his selfish, arrogant side at first and I thought that his character would probably be the reason why Id stop reading the manga but he proved me wrong! You start to see that under all of that, he just wants to love and be loved. They're a pretty great couple in my opinion, a more realistic couple than other couples out there in the manga world. 9/10!
I agree with the below comments, people who are pointing out the "Violence" are the very same people who turn a blind eye to 99% of Female on Male violence ...seriously hw is this to be treated differently than all those Obnoxious female leads who keep slapping and hurting their weak gullible male leads? i smell Hypocricy
anyways coming back to this manga, i thought it was really sweet and how they tried to play the Bride and groom part with lots of comedic essence added to it....the Characters evolve towards the end and i guess i am glad i stuck with it coz this is one of those Sweet Shoujos out there
