There are many many shounen series that start off leaning heavily on the comedy crutch before they gain a plot, and then when they try to dabble in comedy again it doesn't work at all. Gintama is not one of them. Instead, Gintama dabbles in plot as a way to set up and bolster comedy. The humor here is subversive, silly, sometimes gross, often breaks the fourth wall, and makes fun of everything indiscriminantly, especially Jump and shounen manga itself. The arcs, what arcs there are, are just short enough so that they don't wear out the reader's patience if they're not the type to enjoy shounen cliches (and there are cliches, this is still Jump). The characters are likeable - this is not the type of manga where the characters evolve in any significant way so you have to like them as they are. However, it's like hanging out with your old friends when they're this familiar. Highly recommended

This manga is like HILARIOUS to the EXTREME.
Before I read/watched this I didn't even think it was possible to laugh this much, it always manadges to amaze me at how much of a genius the man who created this is.
This is the without a doubt the best anime and manga ever!
Surpasses Bleach, Naruto, and Ouran - by a LANDSLIDE.
If you don't start this your missing out like crazy.

I don't know. I read it because I heard from a friend that it's good. Hell, I read it from the beginning up to the current release non-stop. Now I'm going for the anime. I never watched the anime of the manga I read. This is the first time. The comedy really is painfully funny. I had no regrets reading Gintama instead of studying for my quiz in tomorrow. Awesome manga.

This series is definitely one of my most favorite manga ever! The gag is it is surely one of the best! If possible, I recommend you watch the anime too! It's very well made and the voice actors 's voice acting is really funny and nice to hear. I laugh in every episode!
I mean you should try this out, seriously! You won't regret it! >3<

Gintama is really... the best.. you won't be able to find anything that can top this.

When I saw Gintama on any sites like youtube or crunchyroll, Technically This anime has a catastrophe of laughter and action all in one. The Sublime Satire made by Hideaki Sorachi combining the Historical Settings, Science Fiction, Action and Out-of-this-world comedy with a punch of Parodies and TONS of Stupidities here.

Aside from the looks of the Settings, There is no serious storyline out there. It is Made in Pure Comedy, That is COMEDY rich in gags and all of it were pure exaggerations that made this comedy a haphazardly funny.

The Characters were based on the real people who are involved in Japanese History, well said that these characters are cloud-nine wacky and downright insane.

Also some of the habit of one of the characters with a bazooka-totting Shinsengumi First Captain has the sense of being a deadpan.

Remember the Science Fiction and Japanese Combined, The plot is all about the three guys were doing whatever they want to pay up their rents to save the world. Luckily, Aliens came up to their trouble and Shinsengumi, Joi Faction and Kiheitai came in.

Also some songs from the pop idol Tsuu Terakado gives me an insulting gag about what she said.

What can I say about Gintama?

Gintama is not just a silver soul for nothing, It is a UBER-PLATINUM Grade of Comedy under Shounen category with unadulterated Humor and Guiltless Comedy and Pure Shonen JUMP-like Gags that you will never see it before as well there were TONS of Cosplays in Anime.

End note: Love this anime, Laugh this comedy and make a beautiful sunshine of it ala Gintama Style!

This series is so amazing, the manga as well as the anime.
I can't help but shake with laughter, I love the parodies in it! The silly humor is precisely my sense of humor. Though the comedy dominates, there is action and there are heart-touching stories! 10 outta 10!

This manga is one of the few mangas out there that is great because of how well the mangaka knows how to play his cards with comedy. The reason why I am giving this manga a very high rating is because of how the mangaka is really devoted to staying loyal to the comedy gag genre, despite it also being an action shounen. I admire the fact that the manga maintained and developed its comedy level throughout the years.

I give this 9/10 because of how well the plot is played out in a hilarious gag way, have no fear you wont be cheated with this manga, if its a gag manga then you wont find any dramatized and whiny arcs, this manga is all laughs and comedy even when the plot is supposed to get serious.

Who knows if it will be the best ever but as of right now this manga/anime top every other manga out there. great Characters, Great comedy, great timely action(i e arcs). has everything u would love in a manga.
