Description
Being his first series, What a Wonderful World remains Asano's most representative and successful work to date.
Composed of vignettes from the daily lives of a group of people inhabiting an ordinary neighborhood somewhere in Tokyo, the series is actually a comment about modern life itself and how we can survive in it despite all its rigors.
Amusing, melancholic, funny, strange, thought-provoking - Asano effortlessly shifts from one mood to another, creating stories and characters that are profoundly human and thus always involving. It's a shame that not everyone will find the subjects the aut... More...

Its just as good as its being described in the summery. Great little stories, thoughtprovoking, mature, interesting.
Really worth a look.

When I come to manga - I'm a real cow.
And once in a while I ask myself "Why did they do this?"
This is one of those times.
The story is set up that a bunch of people are having crap lives and something happens and they suddenly see the brighter side of life. The characters come and go - they are interlocked appearing in each others stories. Sounds okay right?
Well ... really depends if you off put by things.
Okay I'm just going to throw it out there.
In every chapter there is some sort of reference to sex. And BOY does it get in the way (or me)
The first chapters follows a girl who, might I add you don't really connect with, is struggling to see the brighter side of things after quitting school. So it goes kinda like this:
Yeah. You see I didn't connect with her at all. She doesn't really have a problem - yet it was made into a dramatic thing. Some say I miss the point, but I say that I already read much better short stories that have better writing and better characters.
The third chapter is about
The fourth chapter is about the childhood friend from the first chapter living his life which goes like:
Then other chapters of sex and poorly written characters.
Look it wasn't HORRIBLE just poorly written and poor characters that go no where. For an outlook of life - it tackles very small problems with very poor solutions. See it, done that.
Recommendation: Go read a good short story series. This one barely makes it.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Oh look at me. I'm sad because I dropped out of school. Oh woe me. I want to meet my friends. But also I don't *Insert some random saying of "My girlfriend dumped me" and she responses "Don't ask me I'm a virigin" (WTH?!)*. I want to be a rockstar. Yet I don't. Oh woe me. *stare at random things* Oh I'm like a housewife. *more staring and then house burn down* Oh woe me. *dream of turtle running around* Hello old friend. *Insert something about wanting to have sex with guy she hasn't seen for six months and just met again* I want to be a rock star. END
Yeah. You see I didn't connect with her at all. She doesn't really have a problem - yet it was made into a dramatic thing. Some say I miss the point, but I say that I already read much better short stories that have better writing and better characters.
The third chapter is about
Spoiler (highlight to view)
a girl who gets pregnant with a teacher and then finds out that he is married and has kids. Has this little spill about life then moves onto wanting to be with her ALREADY MARRIED teacher - after the ordeal going "I really want to see you again". You think she might have the brains to NOT chase after a guy who already has a life - or at least make some sort of statement to him.
The fourth chapter is about the childhood friend from the first chapter living his life which goes like:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I too want to be a rockstar. Lets quit my job. *Insert the return of the first chapter girl who then makes a fuss about him leaving his job and storms out leaving no respect of her from me* Lets talk with my friends. Lets come back and grope the girl in the first chapter then talk about how when she was riding me in sex I was staring at the ceiling thinking about how happy he is right now* You know what. Even though it isn't what I want to do - and I don't like it much - lets not follow my dream and return to the workplace!
Then other chapters of sex and poorly written characters.
Look it wasn't HORRIBLE just poorly written and poor characters that go no where. For an outlook of life - it tackles very small problems with very poor solutions. See it, done that.
