This was the first gender bender manga I read, and one of the first ones I fell in love with.
I love all of the characters. Mizuki, Sano, Nakatsu, Nanba-senpai, Nakao, and that health teacher that Mizuki always asks advice from. And also, Mizuki is such an awesome lead character. She wasn't particularly tomboyish or physically strong, but she was cute and interesting and amazing. I love the love story between her and Sano. The romance had lots of time to develop (since the series is very long) but I never felt that it was draggy or boring or anything. There were lots of sidestories that focused on the other characters, but it just made the series more amazing. It's like every character had a specific role to fulfill, not just some random character thrown in to give the romance in the series a hurdle to overcome. Come to think of it, the only real hurdle Mizuki and Sano had were themselves. There are lots of homosexuals in the series (well it IS set in an all boys' school) but I loved them all. They were amazing characters and added to the funny moments in the manga.
It's a must read

There are romantic mangas that I used to like as a kid but not as an adult after I realize how cliche and shallow they are. But Hana Kimi is not the case. After so many years, I reread the whole series and fall in love with this manga again! The heroine is funny and cute without being too girlish. She may be naive, but in such a way that makes her so loveable. The drawing is simple, but it is a good style for this school life piece with light but heart touching and beautiful stories about relationships between students, friends, teachers, etc. The manga is quite long for readers who only want to read about the main love-line, but the side stories about side characters are very interesting and add more depth and aspects to the manga.
P/s: it is a BL under cover imo, but I have no complain about that. In fact, I like this series more due to that reason

This was the first manga i have ever read were a girl was in a all boys school, pretending to be a boy. I really liked it i was hooked from the first vol. It took me a while to get the other volumes read, cus i hadn't yet discovered the beauty of online manga sights. So it took me about 3 months to read it all, when it could of just taken me 2 days. And then it took a while for my library to get it in and i started to read some Yaoi and when i went back to it i kind of forgot that it wasn't a yaoi for a while lol but that's ok. WOW suddenly its my life story. lol anyway the book is good loved it I would recommend it any day. Oh yea P.S they don't have a Anime for it but they do have a Drama on it just to let you know.

I was hesitant about reading such a long series as I'm always worried about it 'dragging on and on' but this one balanced out the slow romance and character development really well! I really recommend this work of NAKAJO's! The art work is just as enjoyable as the characters. The only reason this got a 9.5 instead of a 10 is that the ending felt slightly rushed after all the build-up, but it was still a brilliant ending. I hope others can enjoy it as much as I did!

I'm sincerely baffled by some of the reviews. My opinion is that perhaps they began reading Hana Kimi after having already read shoujo with similar plots? Maybe because this was one of my firsts shoujo manga AND my first crossdressing one that it has stuck with me for almost five years?
Obviously, it's popular. With a Japanese drama adaptation and a Korean drama adaptation in the making. But what some people lack while reading the manga, if they're just beginning to read it now, it's that it is a classic.
It's one extremely worthy of adding onto your library and having said you've read it because it's just THAT much of a classic.
Ignore the bad reviews, they might be very misleading. Give it a try and YOU be the judge.
Characters: 10/10
Plot: 10/10 (clique, but it's one of the ones that BEGAN the clique of a girl crossdressing as boy)
Art: 8/10

I quite liked this manga, especially the characters and I think the slow romance and the ending worked really well, but I do kinda wish she went and saw Sensei again. It was abit long and I found it dragged on abit but it's still worth reading!

One of my favorite manga series Although the romance and the story can be a little slow its definitely worth it. The development between the characters is also nice and not too rushed. Even though this manga is pretty long the comedy and romance moments make it understandable. The romantic moments are cute and heart warming. The art is also very cute and well in my opinion A LOT better than many mangas I have read out there. It's a must read!

Honestly, one of my favorites. Some parts might have dragged on too long and some loose ends STILL haven't been tied up yet, but whatever. It's still adorable. And it's gender-bender. C'mon, what more do you want?
Adorable!

Ahhh, this manga was amazingg(: I absolutely loved, even though it was pretty long, the plot and artwork were fantastic. It would be better if they work on the ending a little bit more, like how Sano is going to propose and so on. I feel bad for Nakatsu but I hope he'll find someone later in the future. His roommate is hilarious (the spirit dude), then again, everyone was funny and special in their own way. This will definitely stay on my top favorite shoujo manga list! <3

I generally like mangas like this, and for the first 50 chapters or so, I did like it. But after that it seemed to drag on, and I began to wish this series would end quickly. The romance became tiresome and I wanted the characters to just get together.
