In general, shoujo with little to offer besides romance aren't exactly my cup of tea. This manga would probably come under that category, and a reader with my tastes wouldn't find it spectacular either. But I won't call it bad, because I did have the motivation to finish it after I started. When I did finish it, however, it didn't leave much of an impact on me. In all, the story and the whole love triangle plot was 'meh' - not boring, but bland. I was most disappointed by the protagonist - she started out as a funny interesting character. It really bugged me that she would only search her 'daytime shooting star's in a romance. She was initially presented as somehow different than a typical heroine, but 78 chapters later I could barely find any words, other than nice, to describe her. The whole process of falling in love, as some said below, seemed superficial, which made it worse. Contrary to many though, I like the ending. It was confusing and stupid, but I liked Mamura (visually speaking, he's pretty much my type). Shishio was difficult to understand, but definitely more interesting than the girl.
The art is quite pretty.

I really love this ending. This is the first ever manga I thought it's fine whichever guy she'd end up with. I was rooting for both of them. It's realistic

It seems like some people liked the start but not the end. For me, it would be the opposite.
I liked the ending. By that, I mean that not only the plot was good at the end, but the storytelling was also good. I could understand the feelings and actions of the characters at a deeper level. Perhaps it was due to the author improving on her storytelling skills.
However, the beginning of the story was rather bland. The plot itself was alright, but the way the story was presented made it difficult for me to connect to the characters. Perhaps the thing I found lacking for the first half of the story was that the process of falling in love wasn't portrayed as well as it could have been. I felt that it lacked depth and felt rather superficial SPOILER ALERT(i.e.: girl falls for her teacher, teacher falls for her - but how? It seems like he just fell for her. It was rather abrupt).
Even the middle part of the story was just mediocre - quite typical. It was interesting, but it was not outstanding enough to make me feel really excited. When I read the little developments in the middle, it's more like "oh, is that so?" kind of feeling, not like "What?! Why did that happen? That's really good!" nor did it make me think along the lines of "that's some really good character development!" because the characters developed the way most do in these kinds of stories (EXCEPT the main girl character at the ENDING ONLY, which is why I like it). This part that I like is AFTER she made her final decision (the plot twist). The story flowed pretty well after the big suspense. However, BEFORE that, it was underdeveloped - especially how she arrived at her final decision. I think this is what some readers disliked, which made the rest of the beautiful ending unenjoyable for them.
If it wasn't for the ending, this manga would be a 7/10 , but because of the ending, it deserves a 7.8/10.
Amusingly, it feels like the opposite of Ao Haru Ride, which had a good beginning in terms of storytelling quality.

First of all. Reading the prior reviews, I'm pretty irritated. Nothing ticks me off more than reading "cliche" in every review of a shoujo manga. When you are reading a "comedy, romance, school life, shoujo slice of life" manga... exactly what are you expecting to read? That's like reading a "shounen, ecchi, sports" and being surprised there's panty shots of girls playing sports. Honestly. Rant over, moving on.
This is a wonderful manga, highly deserving of it's rating. The character development is great and deeply enthralling to the point where you actually find yourself picking sides and rooting for that character until the end. And, when you get to the end you really feel that hit or miss. In any case, I've read a lot of shoujo manga and I definitely say this is in my top 10. Thank you for the read!

This manga was full of emotions! I cried like a snotty brat for everyone's share. I couldn't hate anyone. I could sympathize with each character. Feeling what each one of them was going through was intense, definitely in a good way. It was a great read! (still crying damn it T_______T)
in the end, whether it was happy or sad... the ending didn't matter because the journey was very satisfying.
Also I think this was more mature than a "shoujo".

The art is beautiful, and the two male leads have pretty good personalities (especially Shishio-sensei ;_; ) but bah, Suzume is just really... boring as a female lead. Not much of character growth tbh.

It felt like the mangaka gave up half way through. The start up was good but wasn't utilized properly. The characters and plot were predictable. The ending felt like a roller-coaster ride that ends once you reach the top. To put it simply one romance felt real while the other felt rushed and unsatisfying. It's just my view point but it had the potential to be so much better.

While the premise is unoriginal, it had the potential to become a really good series with great characterization. True enough, the author kept the story going for me with her characters until chapter 14 -- dropped it after that. The feeling I get from reading this manga reminds me very much of Ao Haru Ride, but their difference is that Ao Haru made me want to read the next chapter and with it comes the excitement of knowing what will happen next. Even though both have their cliche moments, Ao Haru executes it better in my opinion. If I didn't read Ao Haru first, and more recently Horimiya, I probably would have read more of this and given it a better rating.

Rewriting for the impending ending:
The only redeeming factor of this is that the characters are all refreshing and likable. Suzume, the country mouse in a new city is really different from most of the shallow shoujo female leads and her foil, Yuyuka, is the perfect mix of sweet and sour. She starts off as the stereotypical b**ch but gets better along the way. Their friendship is nicely written out. While some may disagree I do think Shishio and Mamura are nice and likable characters. I think Mamura is a decent character but he has problems remaining as a static character without much development on his part. (So what happened with his missing mom that he has such a misogynistic view at the beginning?) Shishio is a more interesting character with his dynamic relationship with Suzume, who juxtaposes with his happy-go-lucky persona well. Like Mamura he faces some stasis in his character but does develop much more towards the later end chapter when he realizes his childish behavior and works to fix on it.
The problem with it is that the story introduces random scenarios to force actions to happen it and it doesn't seem natural or plausible to me. Also the writing got a bit messy and too dragged out with the included love triangle. I like all three main characters but not when they're placed into a stupid love triangle and having the two male leads "fight" over Suzume. I still think the beginning was the better part of the series; towards the end it gets to forced into this love triangle scenario that seemed unnecessary.
Edit ending: Hahaha super rushed and laughably bad writing along with it. I don't know what I expected.
