I watched the anime as a kid, and now reading it was epic, even though the last match lasted 3 volumes (or more?) It was amazing! I cried ;___; It was so short!! It should be at least 10 vols longer!

Just Epic, one of the best mangas I've ever read.

A story that you'll never forget

at first it was just a typical story but certain twist on it made it extraordinary. i already read the manga a couple of times for the story brought me into that reality as if im sakuragi kun... it just so sad that the ending was sakuragi being on a rehabilation for his injury...Only hope the author might consider to create a sequel to this manga that we love most. The inspiration that this manga brought into my life that made me see that through strong determination, hardwork and perseverance anything is possible...

Mr. Takehiko Inoue kindly do a sequel on slam dunk for many of the fans been patiently waiting for it...its like a dream come true to all of us fans...please kindly extend the story for it uplifts my spirit as well as others. i know for sure that it will be another big hit... hope you can do us a favor thanks

I just luv this manga!! i've read it like more than ten times already and I'm still getting excited over the awesomeness of the main characters plays, sure he is cocky, but his cockiness is truly hilarious!! however, it can't be argued that the guy is somewhat a genius!! and in the end.. you just can't end up hating the guy..

I also like the realism of this manga and how Inoue potrays basketball (it's completely different from my expectations and now I became more open minded about basketball).. I won't spoil it anymore.. but for people out there who haven't read it, read it!! if not, you're missing a lot!! even though you dunno basketball you can still enjoy this manga.. and who knows you might end up liking and playing basketball.. I know a couple of my friends did just that cus of Slam Dunk

Just finished reading, i was truly thrilled by this manga. And moved...
Althought i don't like basketball, it doesn't matter with this manga. The spirits of the characters made me love this manga, and appreciate the context (bball)

It's also very funny! That Hanamichi is a real funny baldy haha :)
This work is better than Vagabond, because you feel the mangaka really likes basketball :)

Read it.

Spoliers!!
Well, I don't have anything to criticize this manga for because it was wonderful from begining to end. My ONLY (small) complain is something about the ending. I have nothing against the concept of the main team losing, in fact, I think it was a bold idea (considering this was released in the 90s), and it's more realistic since we're used to see the main team winning in mainstream media. Not to mention how Shohoku was strugling so hard in the last match we got to see. It was a brave and wise decision to make them lose the competition. NEVERTHELESS, I'm a little dissapointed about HOW they lost. I thought they were going to lose against Sannoh after that impressive and grueling match (I was under the impression that They were a stronger team than Shohoku). And I would have preffered to see them lose right there after we withnessed that titanic match than to read a small text box saying they happened to lose against an unknown team in an unknown match in the last chapter. It was an aticlimatic choice, in my opinion.
But alas, despite bothering me a little, this was one of the best mangas I've ever read and probably the best Spocon ever. Thank you, sensei.

I put off reading this manga for a long time because the cover art looks sweaty and unattractive (it's actually not so). Now that I've read the whole thing, I just want to read more!

This manga is fun, with a strange main character that might anger readers or cause 2nd-hand embarrassment at times. There are many jokes, puns, and slapstick humor weaved evenly throughout every chapter without disrupting the flow of the manga. I actually wanted to cry at many points.

Long story short, I unexpectedly came to love this manga. Slam Dunk is the BEST of the basketball genre--better than Kuroko no Basket and etc in many aspects. Anyways, kudos to the author! Because of Slam Dunk, I became interested in other basketball manga ( and basketball in general ) as well!

Ok, so it's been...what, 7 years since I read it. Yet I still remember it as the best sports manga I've read (granted, I haven't read a whole lot) as well as one of the most hilarious manga I've ever read. I remember trying to watch Dear Boys soon after reading this and I just couldn't, it was just so shit by comparison.
Great amount of drama, hot-bloodedness, comedy, sports and I love that ending. Really, really hope those talks of a sequel after the mangaka is done with Real are true.

Art is top notch. Characters that are believable, likeable and can understand and get behind. Very funny. Good character-driven story. Tense and exciting confrontations in the basketball court. Perhaps I'm a tad let down by the ending, but not that much. If you like sports manga, funny manga or simply manga in general - read this. Inoue Takehiko is one of the best current mangakas.
