So let me get this straight. The MC is 40 something guy, who had sex with underage girl, you people are okay with that?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE confused

Sure, he's in a younger body, reincarnation, magic, bla bla bla and all that crap. But he's from our world. Bound with our moral and ethic. And someday he'll return to "our world" (probably at the end of the story), and know this. He slept with children.

I don't want him near my house. I don't want him near my daughter's school. I don't even want him on facebook or twitter. I just want him on FBI database. A phone call away from jail.

And no, the storytelling was pretty awful. The MC is smart and strong just because the author made everyone else stupid and weak. Imagine if Ray Reddington is in the same world, and the author can't pull any of deus ex machina crap. The MC will die. Very quickly.

If you really think the narration was that good, then you really need to read more books. Seriously.

@Kappalord
Cool, you just joined a couple hours ago. Probably just to write that review. Good for you. Hiding behind an anon avatar is awesome.

Nope, don't worry about it. I'm 28 years old guy, with a full time job, a wife and a baby daughter. Never had violent misconduct in my whole life. Not even a speeding ticket. And yeah, I drive, my own car. I'm a grown up with a responsibility to protect my family.

This LN loli harem genre started to become an epidemic, and that's why I'm worried. No, it's not cool to tease reader with loli. Why? Because it puts children as sexual object.

It's pretty alarming that a wish fulfillment genre put loli harem as one of their wishes. It's alarming for the author (he definitely need help), and for you too, mostly because you think that it's okay. It's not btw.

You probably understand that, someday, when you get older. Or not. Which would be sad. For you.

And don't worry, I don't really want to live near you too. The feeling is mutual.

FYI: 15 years old is a child. Unless you' were writing you're from some planet I don't know about. The fact is, the MC is suppose to be from our world. With our ethic and our moral standard.

And please don't bring Nabakov if you aren't really sure that would help your case. Unlike Rudeus, Humbert's action got him a very terrible consequences. Life destroyed, guilt ridden and everything. Nabakov never celebrate Humbert's action. Nabokov even described Humbert as "a vain and cruel wretch" and "a hateful person".

Meanwhile, here you are.

Celebrating.

Humbert is entirely relevant because, despite his grotesque end, he thoroughly indulged in his sick pleasure. If you are so scared of the pedophilia epidemic, no need to look further, Nabokov was the one who brought it into the public. Certainly people like you thought so when the book came out.
I wanna point out at least 2 fallacy (I could push it to 3). But why bother.

You haven't heeded my warning to stop confusing fantasy with reality, so I suggest you stop reading most of the material on this site (especially the wish fulfillment genre) if your tendencies are so prudish. Stick with nonfiction, it's usually safe for genteel minds.
Wait, you do understand, by "our world", I was talking in the context of the story right? The author, with his basic storycrafting ability will, probably bring back the protagonist back to "our world" at the end of the story for the story loop, since he was using a some kinda variant of hero's journey. Sorry for assuming you're smart enough to comprehend that,

By the way, please go protest against those countries with 15 as a marriageable age. They need to be thoroughly indoctrinated by your Puritanical ideals of justice and political correctness.
I did, and still am. And no, me not being okay with people treating children as sexual object does not make me a Puritan. It makes me... errr... normal.

Dynamic Protagonist: From Useless guy to a Loveable Family Guy

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
I personally liked this story in contrast to to the negative reviews. An advice before reading this novel is, do not read the manga first, because I find the manga has a bigger emphasis on the ecchi content rather than the story itself. As well I find that if you read the manga first, you'll have a bigger negative opinion before you can even see the intriguing details within the story. If I had read the manga first I don't think I'll able to have treated the perverted moments as simple jokes, but annoying moments.

As the story goes on you see the character mature and become a loveable family guy (despite his perverted attitude). The annoying pervert jokes also calms down as the big story and picture takes place. One of the biggest factors I love about this story is the real life aspect story. The development from an infant to a young man is the key to why I find this story so intriguing. The friends, adventures and interactions we see the protagonist makes throughout the novel always makes me wonder what new exciting plot the author will do next. Therefore I recommend this story to people who like to see a dynamic protagonist and is able to pass by the perverted contents as simple jokes.

Mushoku Tensei literally redefines how good a light novel can be. Seriously, a lot of novels feel like they're written by teenagers. The author (Rifujin na Magonote, watch for his works in the future) shows he's capable of communicating complex emotions without resorting to really shitty or overtly facepalm dialogue.

First the "hero". Totally not what you expect in a shounen-ish type setting. He's a complete wimp at the start, with all the residual NEET issues after his reincarnation. But you follow him through his relationship with his parents, and all the other events that make his reincarnation truly "starting all over again." I like how the author made his goal a more fulfilling life, rather than more meaningless ambitions.

So then the plot. Simply put: it's @#$@# amazing. Not going to spoil it, but the plot is masterfully weaved with some very unique and memorable characters. There are some parts that had me laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Then there were some moments that really grip your heart and make you feel the sadness or joy or #justeverydaythings.

Read it, you'll have a ton of fun.

The mc is disgusting.....
Don't get fooled by his 10 year old body basically.....he is 40 in his previous life and 10 in current world

So a 50 year old man is striving for good life and sexually harassing kids not teens. ...but kids and sometime women......everyone thinks he is 10 year old kid and do nothing but this bastard takes advantage of his body and do whatever he wants..........I just imagine if everybody knows about his actual age what will be their reaction......but no.......author would never do that ...because that will kill this novel...so just keep everyone in dark and lead better life...........the mic isn't ashamed of his behavior/////.
This is disgusting....mc!!
Anyway even if u want to read it u can......just lie to yourself that the mc is 10 year old not 50.... And has nothing to do with his previous life....../////
Spoiler.......how he lived his pathetic life is described again and again every chapter......which kills the mood that he doesn't deserve reincarnation and hope for better life when in his previous life how he ruined his family and lead carefree life.....a perfect douchebag//////

I like the series, but I have mixed feelings about the main character. Rudeus is 25 gallons of pervert in a 1 pound bag. But he's a hard worker, and a decent character when it doesn't involve women. He tries to keep himself modest about his abilities, because of his previous life, which can be annoying at times too. Overall I like the series though.

What can I say? I am sucker for the fantasy setting! However MT is leaving me with mix opinions. On one hand we have quite decent build up of the characters, nice twists and action. On the other hand we have... Rudi... Yes! The main character is the main problem of the story. If it wasn`t for his hypocrisy, gross behavior and "modest" evaluation of oneself I would have enjoyed the novel much better.
(If there is something he have done wrong or is supposed to be reprimated for he instantly forget that he is 40 yo creepy otaku and act like 10 yo baby >> )
There were countless times I was about to punch the monitor. Rudi is no good human being. No matter before or after reincarnation.

The other major problem with the series is the polygamy. I don`t mind to certain extend however after volume 10 the action significantly drops and we are introduced to the "ultimate ending in eroge game" like in every chapter for a couple of volumes -.-

If it sticks with the adventure aspect the series is perfect.

Here are a few things that I liked about this story.

-The main character while holding enormous potential has to work very hard for a long period of time to grow stronger. In this world no matter how "strong" you are if you are not skillful you will still lose.

-The main character isn't perfect. This guy isn't out to be a hero he's just trying to live a better life than the one he had before being reincarnated. In the end he's pretty likable, he's aware hes not perfect and he just wants to protect his family.

-The relationships make sense (not just the love interests but those are what I'm going to talk about here, as they are more people seem to care about them). This story had the only "harem" situation that actually seemed realistic to me. It wasn't an "oh I met you for 5 minutes when I was a kid and fell in love with you" kind of thing. Every relationship was built over a number of years of close proximity with that individual away from any other love interest. Not only that but they followed through. It wasn't a kiss on the last chapter kind of thing. The MC got married had a few kids, cheated (again not the perfect guy) got a second wife, etc.

I have also notices this story is getting a lot of flack over being "creepy". I'm not sure I agree. I mean the MC starts out as a bit of the pervert and to an extent stays that way. But I honestly enjoyed this part of the story. It made him a little more realistic and (to me) likable. Also his perversion tones down a bit after the first few volumes while never going completely away.

In the end this story has an MC that is strong but not overpowered. They have to work hard and train for a number of years to become strong but are still far from the top. The MC is more individualist and cares about his family and friends, hes not out to save the world and he follows up on his love interests. I enjoyed it, I think you might as well.

Mature, epic fantasy story

It’s funny how this series has got very positive ratings, yet almost half of the written reviews are very negative. This post is partly answer to these reviews.

First of all, MC starts of as a failure of human being. He’s pervert, coward, and pedo. Yet when story goes on, he slowly grows up. It takes a lot of effort and a very long time, but he finally becomes a decent human being. There is no any magical transformation; it’s very slow progress, so it seems some have missed it. He learns to truly care about other people, and their feelings. He never becomes a noble hero, nor does he want to save the world. He becomes a man who loves and cherishes his family.

As for otaku self-insert/Gary Stu, well, what kind of self-insert suffers from ED? That’s just bit too uncomfortable. He thinks his previous self as a human trash, and his being shut-in as sickness. There is no glorification of the otaku culture; instead he deeply regrets his previous lifestyle, and considers it as wasting his life. It takes very long time for him to get over his past. As for Gary Stu, do you even know what it means? MC is very far from perfect, and never becomes cool, noble hero. He’s aware of his shortcomings, and that makes him very likeable.

What I like about this story is the lack of shounen tropes. There is no sudden powerups, and nobody tells their life stories or reveals the secret of their moves in the midst of battle. Everyone has to do years of hard practice to gain any skills, and new skills are built on previous ones. MC starts practicing magic when he is 2-3 years old, and trains it every day. He has an advance of having the mind of adult while being in a child’s body, because small children can learn new skills much faster than adults. That’s why he becomes so good at it so quickly. It still takes years of effort, compared to likes of Bleach with 3-days training sessions.

There is also refreshing lack of the harem tropes, as relationship with all girls develops separately, and they all have their reasons to fall for him. They also have their own lives and motives. Every woman in the story will not mysteriously fall to him ; instead they have their own love interests. MC is not afraid of women, he actually wants and gets some, becomes married, have children, and still story goes on.

I recommend this series to anyone who wants to read mature, epic fantasy story with interesting plot twists.

Way Overrated

1. The MC is pathetic, like really pathetic. 90% of anything he has accomplished is handed to him. He always has some strong being watching over him, and if he is ever in "real" danger the story deus ex's his safety. They even refer to it in the story as his "strong fate." He is a coward, and for no reason. Even if he was a loser in the real world, he has had 20 years to change. He has been able to make himself work, but not able to overcome his fear of everything. Even weak people are less afraid of things than him. He is not a pacifist, he is a coward.

2. MC is a pedo. 15 is the age of adulthood in their world, and I have no problem with that. High mortality likely creates a need for a high birthrate. 2 15yos or even in his first case, a 12yo and a 15yo seems reasonable for the setting, but we see him groping and eye raping kids, not teens, kids. Even the setting of a different world does not change this fact, as his body may be of that world but he is not. So all of their traditions and viewpoints don't apply to him. His tendencies may be more acceptable there, but they are what they are.

Minor annoyances : obsession with class based speak (something the world does not seem to use), obsession with rice, worship of panties.

Overall, the setting had the opportunity to be something interesting, but nothing came of it.
Reasons why people seem to rate it highly: wish-fulfillment and lolicons.

Wish fulfilment...

This is probably the epitome of self insertion wish fulfilment that's very common in other light novel series *cough* SAO *cough* where a loser/nobody suddenly becomes OP.

...there I said it, but with that out of the way I thought that this story had some potential since the NEET turning into a shota in a fantasy world seemed funny but it then goes on about him trying to score with a bunch of lolis, which is just creepy(even if he's technically a kid or the world has different adult ages).

Edit @thefistone,
I agree, Rudy is a gary-stu(having way too many conveniences for the sake of the story) and I also find that way too many people defending Rudy and his loli harem, it's just weird..
