A must read for any manga reader, this manga takes the enjoyment level of manga to the next level (along with Berserk & Claymore).
There is not much to say about this, the comments and review(s) speak for themselves. One of the few manga i rate a 10!
Also, it's highly recommended to read the review written by Unproductive. Easily one of the best reviews in this site.

This manwha was a masterpiece in every way. Alright, it bears a really close resemblance to Cowboy Bebop(compare Spike to Munsu and you'll see what I mean), but I'm not complaining. The ending, despite being a little unsatisfying in a way, was still great and conclusive (I say that because I hate series with cliffhangers ending that leaves room for sequels that never comes out).

Though they were somewhat predictable since i pretty much grew up with Asian folklore but i liked how it was used to link up the story.
One thing that bugged me was the messy background/past of the main characters. It was rather twisted and complex, it took me quite a bit before i figured out what really happened. Especially with all the flashbacks involved.
Still, i suppose it was also due to this "offering of bits and pieces of different memories" that made the series interesting. It was complex perhaps, but it was more real; people dont usually recall traumatic things in blocks, they remember it in bits and pieces and usually might be false.
All in all, those it might not be a good read for those who like happy endings, the mature, complex and dark storyline is worth a shot for those who dont mind.

was great until 'deeply rooted tree' arc. flashbacks are nice and stuff but it's so friggin long that it started to annoy me in the middle of volume 13. i decided to look at the raws to see when the real deal starts again and i was like 'wtf'..
same reason i stopped reading tenjou tenge.
guess i will pick it up again when etc reaches the last volume to see the conclusion.

Didn't like this one much, the only good thing I could find was the art level of detail, but at the same time, the faces were very unexpresive or unfitting and some times the drawings were hard to grasp.
Story wise, I found it very weak, there aren't many explanations and not much logic in what happens, leaving a disconnected and bland plot which jumps from one place to another and one time to another. Also, chars are hardly well defined which makes it hard to get a liking to them or hate or whatever feeling you seak since they just don't feel very real.
And regarding what MariMS says "don't expect it to be the usual "the strongest/most determinated wins all, some kind of miraculous twist happens because I'm such a badass" story", that's exactly what this is all about, I don't know what you read man.
I'm guessing the translation wasn't good which complicates comprehension a little but even so I found it pretty much uninteresting and couldn't get hooked up with it (begining and end were the only somewhat interesting moments).

over all... it' a nice read... but...for some reason i thought it was a pretty boring manga :/ the story is pretty good and deep but the action, character development part are pretty weak, if you compare this with claymore or Berserk neither the story, character develp, and action is up to par. another thing i dont understand is.... why is this considered as a comedy? i didnt laugh at all... well... overall if you are looking for a manga that are strong on story and drama, this is a good read, but if you are looking for something that have action/fantasy or adventure, go read claymore and Berserk

Well, just before I say anything else - the hype didn't live up to itself.
The art is great in this manga, but that's about it.
The characters do not leave a feeling of depth, their actions are more likely to leave you with an impression that the character behavior is defined by authors whim and not by the character’s way of thinking. Seen at its best in the Hwelbindang arc
It feels that the author of the manga portrayed these events in the particular way not to tell a story of a princess teared apart in her cage but to fool the reader with artificial drama or make the reader feel in a certain way about events that have already been established by sawing together events don't do not stick together or feel obviously out of place.
Ok so the story telling and characters are contradictory, but what about their development it is an epos right? As it has been noted before the character development doesn't deserve any mention... AT ALL. I feel sorry for having to even write this. We have main heroes like Sando and Bang Ja who come into the story fairly blank and walk out blank again. According to a number of reviewers this is an epic story. In an epic story a character shouldn't be a blank page when it leaves the story, but they do. The a/m (Sando and Bang Ja) main characters have bleak (if any) back stories, they rarely get any show time and their actions are episodic, but in the end
And again this is just an example. There are other characters with as pathetic character development. Like all the underlings of Munsu that fought with him with the monsters in the great battle while he was ageneral. Their characters experience a complete 180 degree turn at least more then two times in the whole story, and for the first switch (when they joined Aji Tae) there is completely no explanation, then for the second one it is so bleak that I think the author should have left it out completely
The ending of course is clichéd and IMO no spoilers could ever spoil you the story considering that it is completely like any other story of this type.
If you are looking for an epic story about war with deep characters better take Threads of Time or Berserk this story's characters are mediocre at best.
Initially I did wish to give this manga a 6, as I considered it to be a mediocre piece but ok to read, but as I hate the hype about this manga, I gave it 1 simply because I do not think it deserves such high rating and a 6 wouldn’t bring the stats down.

when the leader Hong Gildong announces that the city besieged, when taken, shall be burned to the ground, but then few chapters latter in the flashbacks we see a kind hearted Hong Gildong who is shocked that a person is killed without her orders. Seems that there is just a small step from a good natured thief to a genocidal maniac.
And this is not the only example were storytelling seems to go in heavy contradictions to already or later established facts. Ondal and Pyeonggang arc would be just another fine example where as it seems parts of the arc are being being shown happenening Spoiler (mouse over to view)
while in reality they have not even happened in the imagination of the schizophreniac princess.

when the main hero pleads to Sando come to her senses
we are supposed to feel for their relationship and understand how deep their bond is. But there is just one problem, through the whole story they have at most had a paragraph of conversations, Sando is always keeping a distance thus it is not clear when the supposed bond was born between Sando and Munsu. And again this is just an example. There are other characters with as pathetic character development. Like all the underlings of Munsu that fought with him with the monsters in the great battle while he was ageneral. they get beaten and die.
Everything what these former comrades say contradicts to what they did before joining Aji Tae, and it can’t even be explained by their fear from Aji Tae, as in the end they still switch sides without any logical reason. The ending of course is clichéd and IMO no spoilers could ever spoil you the story considering that it is completely like any other story of this type.

This isn't the first time I've seen an antagonist like Agi Tae, so I knew what was coming with Sando if it wasn't obvious enough.
So inevitably, it pisses me off. Usually I don't give 1s and a review.
Minor comment: once again, in Korean manhwa there always seems to be a girl who is psychologically messed up... always.
Well now lemme finish this ... ugh. His face and Sando's face makes me want to puke.
Back. Well that was a lot of wasted grief on a Manhwa. Real pointless. Bland ending. Still read this if you want some fantasy to kill time. You'll probably like it better than me.
