It can be because of the art, the characters, the plot, the storytelling. Do you know any shoujo manga that sometimes give you a "shounen" feel?

Well, there's 1/2 Prince
I mean, it's TECHNICALLY a shounen, but it's also a shoujo. I definitely suggest reading.

Then there's Beast Master. Eh, I guess it's more shoujo than shounen, but I don't know, it feels like a shounen occasionally.

Maybe Ghost Hunt? It has some pretty good moments in there. Not fighting exactly, just... intenseness. *not a word* XD

Superior and its sequel (?) though the art is very shoujo
Siesta
Meteor Methuselah
Banana Fish
Monochrome Factor
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo

there are some, but I don't read it because they're kinda shounen-ai feeling (BL subtext or bromance)
p.s: I don't know if this is what you meant to be

Chihayafuru - well... i have yet to read the manga, but from the anime, even though it's suppose to be shoujo, all the training and determination that goes into the game doesn't make it all that shoujo.

I second 1/2 Prince and Beast Master.

And I recommend Oresama Teacher and Satou-kun no Juunan Seikatsu.
I can't really think of any others at the moment.

EDIT: Maybe Tokyo Crazy Paradise and two other works by the mangaka of Beast Master whose use of comedy, I'd say, makes them slightly shounen at times - Otokomae! Beads Kurabu and Dengeki Daisy.

There are some short mangas that fit this criteria I remember but I forgot their names. One was with a boy who has heavy OCD and is scared of dirt and infections. The other about a witch with a scarecrow as familiar. Both are rather shounen-ish.

I think that's Keppeki Shounen Kanzen Soubi.

DN Angel

I thought for the longest time it was shounen, but the listing here has it as shoujo.

Sounds like Oz no Kakashi Tsukai.
