Yea I know a weird topic to talk about on a manga site -_-; But this IS the chatterbox, neh?

WWII continues to baffle me. ;[ What a nasty war. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing by the US raises super debate as to whether it was necessary or not. I mean Jesus one bomb is enough to send the message across "We're crazy bastards who have this shit and aren't afraid to use it. Don't fuck with crazy people'" ONE bomb was enough to intimidate the Soviets. ;_; But of course Japanese had to be pricks and call the states on a bluff thus resulting on the states owning them for a second time 3 days later.

Then the lie that the states had a 3rd bomb and threatended to use it on Tokyo... What would've happened if the Japanese called on that bluff and refused to surrender? ;D

WHOA I'M RANTING HERE

Poor Roosevelt... He didn't get to see WWII officially end. T_T And poor Truman, look all the pressure he had to bomb Japan. If you had been in Truman's shoes what would've you done?

Whaa it makes me shudder whenever I think of what would've happened if the Axis had pwned England and the Commonwealth, and Japan kicked Asia's bawt. Let's pretend the Japanese pwned Pearl Harbor.

What would've become of Russia and the States?

I'm convinced Hitler is the anti christ >[ Seriously.

Apperantly the "third" anti-christ will have a war that lasts 27 years. Oh boy if that's true lets hope it's not anytime soon. XD

Basically what do you think would've happened if the Axis pwned the Allies? What would the world be today?

Dubby, are you drinking?

And the bombs were necessary to avoid a full scale invasion. I applaud that generation because they had the guile to do what needed to be done, even if it was not pretty. And if the Axis had one, the world would still be at war to this day.

As a matter of fact I am.

I shouldn't be really I have to wake up early tomorrow. I once went to school with a hangover. ;D Not a pretty sight.

Screw you all I drink when I'm depressed xD

ANYWAYS...
If a nuclear war had started the world would've been destroyed. ;-; It would have ended as to which country had the largest amount of territory. *gets shot*
;)

Think Cold War. XP

Edit :: Also what mad people dare declare war on the states? You're doomed whenever you do that. *cougheastasiacough*

I'm talking modern times btw. XD MAN I'm so happy to border 2 hours away from the states~ but I live in Toronto. O.o So if anyone attacks Canada for whatever reason (maybe cause we're too cool for our own good) they'll most likely attack us. T_T Damn.

I too, am drinking.

Anyway, widespread nuclear war was impossible at that point in time as the US was the only owner of a nuclear device.

I fail to think of a reason for any country to feel the need to bomb Canada.

I, and actually most of the people I've talked to about this, agree with ahoaho about the bombing being a necessity. Japan likely would've fought to the bitter end against a full scale invasion, and overall the bombing may actually have saved lives. Not that its ever good to kill mass people, but it seems to have been the lesser of two evils.

I actually like alternate timelines a lot, and think about this stuff a bit more than I should. However, Japan and the axis winning is sort of a bizarre idea. Europe would be almost entirely a German empire, and Asia would basically belong to Japan. Naturally, Russia and the United States would have a huge economic collapse at the very least, if not be annihilated entirely. I guess that the world would once again be filled with more extreme forms of racism (perhaps not slavery, but obviously there would be serious issues with the jewish and most of non-Japanese asia). I guess the Middle East would have less religious conflict though?

You can tell I'm really bored and have nothing to do at the moment, can't you?

That's why I said slightly less. Lack of Israel = slightly less religious conflict.

EDIT: Apparently I forgot to say slightly. My bad -_-;;

I already gave my reason. Cause we're so damn cool. ;D How about giving a reason as to why anyone WON'T want to bomb the states? *bursts out laughing* I'm kidding, so no one get your panties in a bunch.
I suppose either way it would've been a bloodfest. ;3 But what IF Japan HADN'T surrendered after the second bomb? No choice but to invade because the states wouldn't have had another bomb till 6 months.

It's a bizarre idea but there's always "what if"s. XD

Shit I need to stop drinking before I get drunk.

How do they justify sacrificing tens of thousands of civilians to prevent a few thousands of soldiers and then leaving the following generations with various side effects from it ? Soldiers are bred to die in war what about the civilians ? Anyway, guess that's WaR.

I am pretty sure the axis would have won if that dumb Hitler wouldn't have ordered the invasion of USSR. As far as I know "The battle for Stalingrad" was the major turning point. embarrassed

True. Except for the fact that in war, the objective is to break the enemy's will to fight. The estimated amount of Soldiers AND civilians was upwards of 6 million in the projected battle plans. The Allies had an invasion plan in place that would have included a storming of most of Japan's major cities, including the 2 that were bombed and Tokyo.

Stalingrad WAS a major turning point in the fact that it had dwindled the Axis means to fight/will to fight somewhat, but they were also losing the Battle of Britain and North Africa.

Agreed, bombing in such a fashion is unacceptable, our thousands to millions and decades of residual damage...no bueno...
hmm....

regarding hitler - never would have been a problem if that stupid art school had just accepted him

So, just out of curiosity, it's more acceptable if both sides lose several hundred thousand lives and huge sums of money due to a full scale invasion? (Just FYI, the death toll due to the bombings is significantly less than 1 million, including after effects. Not that hundreds of thousands is much better, but hey, it's not millions). The eventual costs of an invasion, in both lives and money, would have been significantly higher. So while it is unfortunate, and certainly not something anyone should repeat, I believe the correct decision was made.

if Axis won the WWII, Hitler will start his Germania empire, change his name into Hitler von Germania, and then make other countries became their colonies, and also starting to name them with numbers, well in this case of course Japan wont be number 11 anymore because they were allies during the war. Later on there will be many rebellions.

ps: dont take this too serious laugh

to talk about the bomb first truman had to bomb cause if they invaded more casualties for both japan and the U.S. so he used the bomb as a way to end it with less casualties..if the axis owned the allies i dont think anything would have happened in the western part of the world but in europe and asia japan and germany would be running it..and probably a lot less jews in europe....and i thought japanese did pwn pearl harbor confused
