Alright. I'm gonna be brave here and ask a question I don't really know if I want the answer to. If there are any bara readers out there, could you perhaps direct me to some good works? I'm ready to give this genre a try...I think.
Actually, I think I've read one and it wasn't so bad. The thing is, I can't remember what it was because it was a long time ago and I didn't know what it was.
Is there anyone out there who actually prefer bara to the other kinds of yaoi?

I tried to read some bara works since I'm a huge yaoi fan but I didn't liked it. I would like to point an interesting article about bara in english that may help you to find yourself in the great variety of titles.

Thanks for that link
"Bara" is HOT O.O But I've only ever come across it accidentally (MATSU Takeshi's). There needs to be more of it, dammit D: So much so-called-yaoi out there, and next to none of this...Be ashamed!!
Sure there's a difference between yaoi/bara, but they are one in the same. Bara just seems to be an alteration in yaoi, like shoujo esque yaoi and shounen esque...So it's all the same and I like it all, unless I dislike a certain manga, which usually has nothing to do with the style (i.e. skinny gay boys vs. husky gay men, it's all good).

Okay, I've checked out this link and have read a few of them. And just as I suspected, bara isn't so bad (I've only read a few though). It took a while for me to get used to the idea that I wouldn't be seeing skinny little guys or long lean guys, but besides that it's really not that different. Though I must admit, I haven't found one with much of a story yet. Thanks so much for the info.

okay this one's sort of an old topic..
i actually like to read bara occasionally
when i get sick of all the girly cliche yaoi haa..
i know a few mangas but i dunno if they're actually labeled as "bara"
since i think the authors are female..
however, they definitely have sexy buff n gruff men :]
- "hide and seek" by IKE REIBUN
- "damatte naite irunodesu" or "ashita mo koko de aou" by UCHIDA KAORU

Thanks for adding those! The last one I've read, but the others were new to me. Thanks again!

I think those are good ones because they look like bara but the plots are more like yaoi....Same goes for The Man of Tango (I think this one is the best I have found)
Some other recs like these? I have read some random bara but didn't really get into it because it was just sex, but this borderline type is pretty good.

Oh my... I think I'll add these titles to my wishlist.
Though i thought bara means big, muscular, hairy kinda guys? Some of the titles don't seem to fit that definition...

To me, there is something different about literature(manga) from porn which often makes it worth reading. I dislike most porn because it sort of objectifies the subjects, displaces the person's feelings and stereotypically turns the people into nothing but "sex symbols". I won't disagree that porn has its own purposes for those who watch it though. However, porn in no way reveals what the subjects are thinking(in a meaningful manner) and there is often little cohesive storyline and so on, that makes it worth considering.

I don't think so. I consider Hintai as porn, there are next to no plot, characters are portrayed as sex symbols and feitish objects, and there is no reality to it. what the characters are thinking matters next to nothing, and the plot basically go right to the sex as fast as it can.
Althought not all Yaoi fall into the no-plot category (since we are woman, we like to feel love) some of the major hard-core yaoi oneshots are very much like hintai.
Yaoi (some of them) are porns.
except that we're not "displacing the person's feelings" because characters are 2-D to begin with

I was wondering... does anyone know why bara manga information on this site, bara mangaka aren't mentioned, and in the genres (to the right of the screen, under 'Reviews') they have everything but bara. It's an actual manga genre, recognized by the manga community (I assume??) So why isn't it on the site?
Just wonderin...
