I'm looking for a manga where a character from a modest background makes her way to success through talent and hard work. Something like Catch! Love or Glass Mask. I'd like it even better if the character was lazy and unmotivated before starting on the path to greatness.

Swan, with ballet.
Nordiska Sonata, with piano.
Cat Street has a main character as unmotivated as you're looking for.

There's also Bibi, a manhwa about fashion design.

Ashita no Ousama - playwriting
Gokinjo Monogatari - fashion design
Nana - rock music
Nodame Cantabile - piano

Apparently because the only things heroines become successful in are arts and entertainment...

I'm going to add a series I just found to my own request thread - Yokohama Monogatari, and not with the arts or entertainment! It's about two Japanese girls living soon after the opening of the ports that fight the prejudice of the time to be able to attend school and hold careers.
