I'm looking for manga where one of the main characters is a person who tries to live a normal life after growing tired of living a life where they "walked a path of destruction bathed in blood".

Like a soldier or warrior whos been in hellish situations and lived that kind of life until they decided to leave it to live a regular life.

*Note* I'm not looking for one of those comedies where a delinquent tries to be a normal student. I'm looking for a manga with a more serious tone.

Rurouni Kenshin is like that, but the main character keeps getting entangled with violent people, so he only gets to live a normal life at the very end of the manga.

Blood+ : Used to be a blood-thirsty killer, now living as a high school girl having forgotten her past. She gets sucked back into that world pretty fast though.
Black Cat: Former top assassin quits and becomes a bounty hunter who swears never to kill.

Also Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu (anime) and Hajimete no Aku, in case you're looking for laughs.

Trigun sort of does this, you might want to try it. You might also want to glance at Zero.
