Hey everyone. I browsed through the forums before, as well as the category thing, but found no posts that were to my liking concerning the type of antagonist I would like in a manga.
If you can help me, here's what I would like to read:

A type of villain (or perhaps protagonist as well if it fits) who is incredibly evil, not just the type who would torment/bother the heroes, but really mess them up.
Sorta like, may seem weird, how the dark Yugi was at the start of the original Yugioh manga
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I mean, he burned people..
Another example is Neuro and all the other villains in Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro.

It would be a great plus if while the antagonist/protagonist always has a smile on his face while being evil, and wont hesitate to go against his own people, you know?
I would also like it if the villain interacted with the heroes, not just "doing nothing in the shadows" type. He/she has to do some stuff as well.

The villain(or protagonist) can be male or female, doesn't matter. Please no hentai, shounen-ai, shoujo-ai, smut or lolicon/shotacon.
I would prefer a sci-fi/supernatural genre, but anything is fine.

Thanks in advance!
EDIT: If you need more info, just ask. smile

Sounds like you want some old-school shounen villians~ I'll see what I can think of.

I remember almost all the bad guys in Rurouni Kenshin being like that; since it's a long series with a lot of arcs there's more than one villian. They increase in their evil-ness as you go through (the last one is definetly what you're looking for).

Naraku from InuYasha is another obvious choice. Seshomaru is pretty evil at first, as well, but softens up while Naraku gets more sinister. But this is another long insanely long series.

I think the antagonist Creed from Black Cat fits, as well (haven't read it in awhile so I can't completely confirm). He does smile a lot when being evil.

If you don't mind shoujo try Meteor Methuselah; it takes a couple of volumes for him to show up, but the antagonist Yuka is seriously messed up. He essentially has himself reborn to eternally torture the protagonist.

And if you really want to branch out, one of the most sinister villians is in Godchild, but from what you've read I don't know if you'd like it. But the antagonist is truly the epitome of evil, and lives to control and torture the protagonist into a state worse than death. dead

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. Shin Angyo Onshi completely fits your criteria, and has an EPIC plot. on that note if you don't like gore, I'd stay away from it.

ish...there's a twist in the end. Don't get me wrong he's really evil, but the intention is not...if you get what I mean

Hellsing ok...not really in your criteria, since it's not the antagonist, but the protagonist. oh no the antagonist is crazy, but the antagonist is pyscho and you love him anyway. again, if you don't like gore, stay away.

Yes, dark Yugi burnt people, but this one impales them, duh since he's Vlad Tepes

@ Doki: Ah, yes, old school. xD
I have already read all of those but Meteor Methuselah, that is one I'll check out. =] And I'm actually reading Godchild right now.

@ TheAlmighty: I'm a-okay with gore, Thanks for those ones, I'll check those out as well.

I second Code: geass but watch the anime, the manga doesn't do it justice. I also agree with Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin if you're talking evil, pro-active antagonists.

You might want to try

Death Note - It's more of a cat-and-mouse than straight black and white so you can really choose who you think the bad guy is. Light is definitely manipulative not above evil deeds.

Full Metal Alchemist - The antagonists are most definitely evil, very manipulative and interact with the protagonists.

07-Ghost - the main antagonist is very evil.

D.Gray-man

Fruits Basket - The antagonist is dark, manipulative and is very good at psycologically messing people up.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps.

Definitely this.

Surprised no one mentions Berserk. The main antagonist does some really ****ed up things.

I second this. Both Monster and Berserk have incredibly evil protagonists and if you're specifically looking for "demonic", Berserk's prime antagonist fits the bill rather literally as well as figuratively.

And thanks Oak for the extra info.

Keep them coming, your good recommendations. =D
