I have read a LOT of mangas, most of them shoujo and i'm surprised i haven't come across one good one that talks about teens struggling with drugs, alcohol and all tht stuff. i don't know but is it that drugs are not as prevalent in japanese teens as they are in America. Or have i just not expanded my horizons a bit--are they really good mangas that deals with this issues?

River's Edge is the only one that comes to mind. It deals with lots of things. xD

It's very rare to find that theme in shoujo titles, lol. I can't think of the shoujo titles that have that theme off the top of my head, but I have read a few that deal with those issues. There are many other series of non-shoujo genres that feature issues of drugs and alcohol.

That's because stuff targeting children tend to not deal with mature content such as drug, alcohol, and sex... of course, some do but most do not.

If you want one that does (not shoujo), look at Ultra Heaven.

Hell, we even have a categories for 'em Drugs and Alcohol.

Moved to I'm Looking For...

I really doubt you'd find such themes in shoujo...
Anyways, good titles I know are Wild Adapter and Switch.

Confidential Confessions
Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari: Also read the sequel and spin-offs.
Delivery
First Love (SAKAMOTO Isao)
Vitamin (SUENOBU Keiko)

Some are about prostitution and abuse.

NHK ni Youkoso! has this theme, but they're not teenagers (?) - so I don't know whether you'll be interested.

Also, like everyone else mentioned, shoujo manga can't really be expected to deal with such issues...the only exception being Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari. If you're interested in more mature manga, I suggest you try out seinen. That's the demographic where you can expect to find alchohol / drug-abuse based stories.

Edit -
Whoops! I see you've read Deep Love...Oh well ^^

I agree with Confidential Confessions - that'd be one of your best bets

Seconding Deep Love/Vitamin(fave), and Confidential Confessions

I think [m]X-Day[/m] might have drug usage. I can't remember though
