i think i'm good.
what a girl in manga possibly do to raise my interest?
i'm only interested in plot wit, story telling skill, and character depth. none else.

No. I prefer my manga to have at least a little bit of romance.

Sorta depends. Most of the shounen I read without girls are sports. Even the ones with one or two girls (Prince of Tennis or Whistle!) don't have romance, really. Though I do prefer a little bit of romance in my shounen.

At the very least, while I don't hate it if there are no girls, I'd like to have some just so I can randomly pair character up when I so feel like it biggrin

Akumetsu have pleny of girls...

But taking it back to the plot. I do read hajime no ippo(like 4 girls and one's his mom). I used to read New grappler baki and JOJO bizzarre adventure when it was mostly guys, hum... i cant really name many shounen without girls at least for comic relieve i have a hard time in fact.

Ed. I mean the main guy have to save someone dont him? biggrin its either family, the world or a girl bigrazz and sometimes the girl can mean the other two ^^.

Absolutely not. It doesn't work in my opinion. There has to be at least one girl in the story who shows up regularly`. There doesn't have to be any romance between the protagonist and the girl, but a story just doesn't feel right without a girl. And, that is just the short ones...if the manga is long (I would say 150 chapters or more), then what the hell has been going on this hole time? What is the protagonist working so hard for? If he's not trying to impress a girl, or save a girl, or just spend time with her, then what? Is he fighting a bunch of dudes just to prove it to himself? No women, and you're just south of yaoi.

Ok, at this point, I can't even think of a long shounen that I've read without girls in it...If I have started one, then I stopped a while ago because there were no girls.

I notice that a few posts above me have said that they like some romance...well, I don't necessarily agree with them, but every culture needs some romance. Shounen stories usually take place in the developing years of a kid's life...he needs to associate with some kind of female figure outside of his mother.

I think it have to has at least one girl.. I mean is there a world or situation or a place that there is no girl in it.. but if you said that, should romance be omitted from a shounen manga, that I can agree...

example the manga Full Contact have a girl and it only touch a little bit of romance, same goes to Bleach and One Piece. I think that's the flavor and usually the girl in shounen are strong so it make girl who read it feel kind of like "YEAH You Go GIRL!!".. I'm okay with shounen as long as the romance doesn't outweight the plot or the romance become a drag... another best example is MXO although he fight for the girl but the essence of the stories does not stray from the 'shouneness'.. ha..ha.. but then it is only a matter of an opinion... eyes

hell yeah
they just have to compensate with a great story line or kick ass fighting.

Examples:

baki gambling emperor legend zero

What kind of girls? I'm all for female characters with the same depth and presence as the males - I don't mind blatant fanservice, even, as long as they don't also constantly play the damsel in distress. Example: GetBackers. Female characters in that manga never stop losing their clothes (though, to be fair, neither do the males), but at least most of the few who actually show up can hold their own in a fight.

In any case, I just can't stand the idea of using female characters solely to motivate the males, or to play the role of the Love Interest (who usually has next to no personality outside of her relation to a main character). It's offensive to women, and it implies that they only exist to satisfy men.

In any case, I don't really like romance in shounen anyway. Let me enjoy the subtext; lemony fanfics will take care of the rest. <3

Hm yeah, like what joli said, it depends on the girl. Some girls in shounen are completely worthless and they just show up every five chapters to get kidnapped or make it awkward for our male protagonist. In that case, they may as well not be there at all. But I love the girls in mangas like One Piece, because like shasa said, it's cool when they can actually fight and stand their ground like the guys.

i don´t think so. if yuu wouldn´t start sulking once in a while and lose his strength than it would just be a male mary sue story

i can bear with it, if its a really good manga, but generally i don't like both ends of the spectrum. i don't enjoy all girls manga, or all boys manga.
