Sorry, the topic was a little confusing. Basically, are there any series you're surprised are popular and still going on that you started to read the first few chapters of and then dropped? I haven't read manga steadily for a year or two now and I'm getting back into it, but looking around I'm surprised to see some series develop this far.

Take Shugo Chara for example. I know this isn't exactly in the league of "greatest mangas ever" but when it first came out with a couple chapters I expected the whole thing to end in maybe ten chapters. Now I look back and a lot of people seem to mention it a lot and it reached about 50 chapters or so.

Same with 07 Ghost. I really liked the art, so I read it when it was only out with 3 chapters, so I expected it to end within 2 to 3 volumes with the pace it was going at. I dropped it because of slow releases and increasing disinterest before even the tenth chapter came out, but now that I look at it it has a whopping 68 chapters now. The hell?

Similar feelings with Death Note a few years ago. I mean, when I first started it, it was already maybe 10 chapters in, and though I had the feeling it was going to be a popular manga, it was still just so strange a few years in to see it explode as the anime and live action movies came out (not to mention annoyed when I tried to discuss it with a few people and they had only watched the anime or movies...). It's one of the reasons why even when I dropped it after chapter 50, I decided to read it again after it finished.

There are a few more mangas I can think off the top of my head that ended up surprisingly popular or long, like Kimi ni Todoke. When this happens I get the feeling I'm getting too old for this or something, haha (impossible!).

I know what your trying to say. But I don't actually remember the titles because I don't regard them as important. Though I have to say: some titles I try again after a year later or so, and then I realize my tastes have changed, and read it all in one go.

Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, The World Only God Knows, The Bride of the Water God, Hitman Reborn (After like 60 chapters of crap..), etc..

bleach and naruto!! Though i have never read them before, i don't get why they are so popular?? I tried reading a few chapters and gave up. XD

i usually try to finish the whole manga unless it's really really really that bad

Gosh, I've been following Conan since I was in primary school. Now I'm in uni. I've dropped it twice and I have no idea how I managed to pick it up again and again

Meitantei Conan!! Holy Crap! That since I was so young and I'm never get bored to read it again and again, and I'm always waited for the next chapter. Bit again it gonna reach 1000 chapter

i was very much into this when it first came out and i liked the first anime
then all of a sudden they showed that everything up till that point had been a lie
i mean
everyone in his class turned out to be a mage,super warrior,extreme ninja god and or just awesome and that they knew about some secrets that...they just should now know

i got very dissapointed with it and i just assumed everyone else felt the same
but no
there is like 2 spinoffs to the manga, spinoff anime and live action tv shows and one LA movie[maybe a tv special]

Ah! My Goddess. The first time I read it was 15 years ago. I never got the chance to read it anymore after that. After I joined BU, I checked the title and was really surprised when I saw that the status that it is still ongoing.
