Yuri?

not really, girl to girl action in real life? is a TURN on, but only if I can join, I am not one of those guys that like to see the action, I like to be an active PART OF IT, even if there is only a single goal, I can pick the routes to achieve it.

Even if the goal with sex is mutual pleasure, I like to pick the ways to achieve it, or at least be an active part of it.

I am tired of work, so now I rest

I have to ask: Do guys like yuri and/or the RL equivalent?

Not me.

Not in the least.

I have no problem with the people, but its not even close to being a turn on for me.

Same here.
It's the same as watching the muskox mate to me.

yuri is fine. Although when I read it, which isn't too often, its usually to cleanse my pallet of bad shoujo, where one or all of the female characters refuse to grow a spine. Seriously. After I finished Hot Gimmick I went on a slight yuri bender. It stopped after maka maka. bad art and no story.

Bad shoujo/shounen and bad yaoi/yuri are not for me either. lol

This thread has some good shoujo and yuri recommendations: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=11546

Thx for your answers I understand now...thought the main reason are the good-looking guys but seems there is more to it.

No, it actually is. There is no fundamental difference between Shoujo or Yaoi. There are good Shoujo and there are good Yaoi. So, I don't get the whole "have-a-better-plot" argument. Stop generalizing. Both Shoujo and Yaoi have the potential to deliver great stories, but if you happen to like looking at two cute boys more, then go ahead. There's nothing wrong with that. J-just don't try to mask it with arguments that can equally be applied to Shoujo manga as well. Basically what I'm saying, no generalizing.

Let me iterate: SHOUJO AND YAOI CAN BOTH BE GOOD.

I like it, but I don't love it nor obsess
about it. I prefer heterosexual couples.

You mean, like seeing two girls kiss? Yeah I like that.. shy
Not if it's two girls kissing just to get attention; then it's kind of desperate :/
But if I happen to witness a real kiss between girlfriends, then I enjoy it and consider myself lucky.. try not to stare though ^^;

I read yuri too sometimes as well.

Weren't you saying the other day that there is no difference between yaoi and hentai?

And why do you assume that yaoi readers don't also read shoujo? wink The question was "why yaoi?" not "why not shoujo?"

(An interesting fact: Many of the best yaoi mangakas write both yaoi and shoujo/josei, and sometimes even shounen/seinen.)

I don't hate it, but I don't go near it too much because the art in yuri/yaoi are usually not my thing.
In rl? You do whatever you want with your life, it's not like I get a say in it and I don't hate people for going yuri, unless they are a bit**

I agree with the general idea that yaoi can sometimes be like shoujo and/or josei, but not always.

I said this in a different thread somewhere, but I think in general, those genres (shoujo, josei, and yaoi) typically focus on the emotional bonds between people more than just the sex, which I find to be a problem with most hentai (but not all). It's the emotional bonds that tend to attract female readers.

Why yaoi over shoujo? Some of the better yaoi isn't like shoujo in that you get a different type of relationship/interaction than you get from shoujo, but the overall themes and art are still similar. And sometimes, you just want to see two cute guys in a shoujo-ish story/setting instead of a guy and a girl.

I agree with Odette in that as a straight girl, it's easier to empathize with characters who are attracted to men.

Do you see me quoting his question though? I just had something to say against his statement that I quoted, and then I extended my musings to a more general statement directed to those Yaoi readers who don't read Shoujo at all (or prefer Yaoi by a mile). I am fully aware of the interesting fact you edited in.

Also, thanks for the cheap shot below the belt. I guess I didn't word myself correctly back then. Not all Yaoi is Hentai, but what I meant to say then, was that Hentai is in fact classified in homosexual and heterosexual relationships.

Since you didn't specify that "you" referred to some strawman population of yaoi readers, I assumed that "you" referred to the actual respondents to bking's question, none of whom said that yaoi plots are inherently better than shoujo.

Thanks for clarifying yourself. I mean that non-sarcastically.

Quite a few yaoi have no development and a seme who suddenly pushes and forces a uke for no reason. I can't agree there's any emotional bond in such. You can't deny that there are female readers who like them (Is it a fetish or something? laugh ) . There's usually no anything explicit as hentai. I think perhaps the way they are drawn (more focusing on expressions and so on) make some think there's an emotional bond. It's up to your interpretation.

Also some yaoi have situations that are too awkward. Therefore some readers might find it hard to find anything emotional from them. Yet you can say the same about some shoujo and josei too. It all comes down to the individual reader's taste.

True that. =)
I didn't say it was never about sex. In those situations, I think that's where the 'empathy' that Odette mentioned comes into it. Heh.

I think it was pretty clear, since I didn't refer to you (or the other person) at all. I didn't even hint that I was adressing it to you, so I don't see how you could mistake that.

Also, I hope that you're not taking this personal. shy
