Mangacurse Scan is closing its doors. You can read their reasons here:

This is just getting more and more depressing. Is it just me that's worried about the future of manga scanlations?

I've never read any of their series, but this really is worrisome; so many groups are folding and new ones aren't jumping at the chance to replace 'em like they used to. Looks like I'd better start learning Japanese...

Already ahead of ya.

When I saw the attitude of leechers who expect you to deliver cuz it's their right and mangafox earning money on the author's work, I knew it was time to close my group (still need to release the last part) and I decided to take japanese seriously.

It just wasn't worth it anymore.

The sad part about it is that people can't get that the scanlation community needs more people in their groups. Not new groups which they so happy makes and kills in a few weeks, but more people on the old groups to make the stuff running.

Also that many people using external mangareaders like mangafox and mangahere won't know when the groups need people cuz they don't visit the groups site and no one really reads the credit page, right? ....and then it becomes too late. XD

It may take me a while to overcome my abhorrence of proprietary software such as photo shop. Also, I still have some time before my Japanese is at a level where I can translate easily, but expect me. I'm sure there are other people who are also waiting till their Japanese reaches a higher level of fluency. So think of it more as a trough, than a slope.

just as one of the comment in the forum, is it not possible for the other staff of the member lead the Mangacurse, at least until theslasher done with his study mmm...
it's very sad to think that a group as big as Mangacurse is closing its door because of one person's decision mmm...

Personally, the only thing I ever tried reading from Mangacurse was The Breaker: New Waves. The quality of their scans (judging by that) wasn't that good. Now maybe they'd improved since then, I don't know...
Well, I guess it is sad in general to see a group close down. But sometimes, no scans is better than bad (and possibly badly translated) scans.

for every one that goes a new one takes its place. scans aren't really stopping and groups who arent super fast end up dieing out.

Truthfully I was incredibly annoyed by their scans awhile back. The broken English was very dissatisfying. How difficult could it be to let someone with decent English skills proofread their scanlations? All the more annoying since they scanlated several of series that I like.
HOWEVER. They have improved a notch since then. To the point where it was readable.

This becomes a problem, and it all started with those online readers that popped up some years ago, this time it's another reason but I guess the economical crisis also plays it's part, as most people don't have so much time as in the past, as everyone needs to work harder and longer because of this.

The only thing what we can hope that it's a temporary shut down, as it's a matter of time maybe they could come back after some time...

At least I'm really thankful for the early breaker releases and that they took some time to do King of Hell (one of my favorite manwha's that disappeared suddenly some time ago.)

not really economical when it is due to lack of people to help on a series

Well, his case would be personal interest, some others' would be online reader & their cursed uploaders who uploads the moment a group release their work.
At the end of the day, it boils down to the reader's attitude. They can thank the online reader all they want, but it's not the online reader that brings them their manga/ manhwa, but the groups who did it.
If they don't support the group, how can they even expect the groups to want to do anything at all?

I don't necessarily agree with this statement, but what chomio is trying to say is that because of the economic crisis, people are more likely to be working than they are to be spending their time freely. Less free time means fewer people willing to work on scanlations.
