Godly Bells matches what you're looking for quite well, but it's not centered around that fact

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru.

While you would undoubtedly call the MC the protagonist he doesn't really develop like a normal MC. He's wilfully anti-social and more content to stay unnoticed in the background and let other people be in the forefront, yet he has great insight to everyday situations. As for what this animé is about, it's hard to describe without sounding like a clichéd rom-com. Read the synopsis and decide for yourself.

If you dont' mind shoujo, I would suggest Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang .

Although the Main Female Lead has a low rank, she was given a high education by her Master so she pretends to be stupid normal maid with no talent around other people, especially when she meets her Master's enemy. smile wink grin

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lelouch from Code Geass. He's the epitome of an intelligent person playing the "fool" as not to get noticed.

I also second Yureka. 1/2 Prince has a character that acts like a bumbling idiot but he's actually a proffessor/genius.

The title character of Legend of The Sun Knight is exactly this. He's so sneaky that you just want to applaud him. I suggest reading the novel first (then the manwha...its a bit girly....)

Thanks, unfortunately I've already seen/read Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru, Iris Zero, and Code Geass.

I'm not the biggest shoujo fan, but I will take a look, thanks!

I tend to suggest the works done by Yo-wo and I can't believe I forgot one. Eclipse Hunter- The MC's brother is super evil, super smart, but acts surprisingly like a doofus when it comes to his brother. (1/2 Prince/Legend of the Sun Knight (novels as well) were done by her.)) All three I suggest are worth checking out even if you dislike light novels. They are just so engaging.

I had to include it, I know you'll appreciate it.

Koi dano Ai dano - It's a shoujo with a female main character, so there is some romancey flower stuff going on, but the heroine is awesome. She basically gets involved in schemes with the student council, but manages to fool most people that someone else is doing those things.

The prequel is Warau Kanoko-sama, but it's more episodic than its sequel. (It's still pretty good, but the sequel is much better.)
