personally i like the violin operish stuff in vid games and anime more than any of those bands but i don't know any specific groups that do that kind of stuff cry

can anyone help with that? lol

If you are looking for metal with an opera sound I should be able to get you started.

First of all, try to listen to listen to bands like Nightwish, Visions of Atlantis, within temptation, nemesea and similar bands.

You could also listen to some doom/gothic metal bands. My suggestions are Theatre of Tragedy, The sins of thy beloved, Sirenia, Tristania, leaves' eyes and maybe Therion.

As for my personal favourite bands... http://www.last.fm/user/ginenbijnoam/

Could try apocalyptica aswell, might be what you are looking for.

Anyone else on here hear about Jada Pinkett Smith's band Wicked Wisdom? It's a metal band she sings for and its pretty damn good. I was really surprised by it.

Not sure about the others, but Arashi & Kat-Tun are J-pop "boy bands" (the Arashi "boys" are all in their mid-20s now, though).

I haven't heard much Kat-Tun & wasn't too impressed by what I did hear, but I like Arashi quite a lot. biggrin

I feel some awesome women rockers must be added to the mix...

Leona Naess, Lullaby Baxter Trio... Ani Difranco, Fiona Apple, Jennifer Erb, BRASSY, Jack off Jill, Liz Phair, Evanescence, Aimee Mann, Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, and Suzanne Vega.

Also~~ the Silver Sun Pickups has to be added.

for metal bands with operatics and orchestral parts try- Virgin Black, Silent Stream of Godless Elegy, The Third and the Mortal, Emperor, Rhapsody. depending on how much violence you care to have in your music, these bands are incredible. Virgin Black, SSGE, and The Third and the Mortal are doom. Virgin black is incredibly operatic, SSGE is more experimental but uses a lot of orchestral instruments(violin , cello, etc.), and TTM are (were) more like a slow jazz band with an operatic female lead. sadly, kari left after the 3rd album and they went a bit too crazy. Emperor is rapid speed black metal with orchestral compositions, and Rhapsody (now called Rhapsody of Fire) is trad. metal with choirs and orchestra. it is kind of amazing how metal blends so well with orchestral music.

sadly i have tried the first few a few years ago. they weren't that special(nightwish, within temptation, etc)
it seems that while the music isn't so bad i for the most part don't care for the singing. those bands don't completely mesh for me. and the stuff i do like frankly i have to be in the mood. kinda like evanescence. they are good but after a while she should stfu. it sounds harsh i know but as for the really girly melodic voice as nice as it is... u(or i do at least) basically have to be in a somewhat girly mood to appreciate- almost emo.
in any case i gonna try the other bands u mentioned that i haven't checked out. thanks.

I havn't listened to anything new by Goo Goo Dolls in awhile. I've only heard a few songs by RA, but I do like the ones I have. I know of Dragonforce, but haven't listened to them yet. Got a song by Dope, too, and its pretty awesome.

Not a fan of Lifehouse, never heard of Masterplan or Scooter. Haven't liked Smash Mouth in years. Need my butt kicked for leaving Tenacious D off the list. Seal's ok, only like a few of his songs, though.
