Two characters thrown together through circumstance who don't particularly like each other or want to work with each other but their talents/skills/powers/whatever compliment each other and they are needed to save the world/solve a mystery/bring down a corrupt something or other.

I just finished watching Red Data Girl, which wasn't a particularly great anime but I did like the whole "we're stuck with each other and need to save the world" element of things (and now that I know it's also an anime I'm so adding it to my wish list). I'm not necessarily looking for the protector/protectee scenario like in the anime. Inu Yasha is another that fits partnership wise (however still very protector/protectee) but I'm not looking for shounen action/adventure (at least not the typical protagonist starts off weak and levels up to become strong, rinse and repeat, insert lots of action sequences - I prefer action/adventure as anime, which is why I watched InuYasha rather than read it).

I wish I could think of examples because I'm certain I've read a few series that fit the bill... Drug & Drop totally fits actually. Ghost Hunt comes to mind too, not exactly the same but similar.

Something like Sousei no Onmyouji?
