I'm looking for this romance manga, I don't remember much about the description except that the main character's lover kept changing from male to female and back again (it was just one person who changed gender for some reason).

Not that one! Sorry, I could have been more clear: their body physically changes, like they get shorter/taller, hair grows out, etc. It's not just "cross-dressing" like UsoLily or psychological.

Sorry I have no idea then. I was thinking of one manga but the main character is a male and female lead keeps on changing genders much to the main character's confusion. He is unsure what her real gender is.

Sounds like Family Compo.
Female lead and she grew up in family who does the same hence doesn't mind dressing as either gender.

That was my first guess but he/she specifically said the main character was female. Family Compo fits the description exactly but the main character was male.

To be clear: female protagonist, the lover is the one who changes bodies, and it's definitely more of a Josei, the characters are probably older than high-schoolers.
I just remembered that there was something about water being important somehow, like they met up at a river, pond or something to that effect.
