As I grow older I've found that I'm losing interest in the popular shoujo. Parfait tic, Love monster, and most of the cute little high school romances that usually end with "I like you!" just don't cut it anymore.

I've ventured into Josei and I can't find too many of them. I've just about exhausted all the yoshihara yuki I can find (not just for the smut, but the wit). I've read Honey and Clover, Clover, Kimi wa petto, Eternal sabbath (although I don't think that's josei)

I'm looking for something with more substance or with an unusual plot line that will cater to an old fart like me. Any suggestions? confused

You can try reading I.S. I stopped reading it after volume 2 because it seems too realistic though. Eternal Sabbath is actually seinen, I think. You might want to try reading those too, they're to shonen as josei is to shoujo.

I like Seinen too like telepathic wanders, Gantz, Until death do us part, but I'm looking for Josei in particular. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look I.S. up.

If you're looking for some high school romance, you could try Love Roma. It's a seinen though. The storyline is very interesting, not like the usual high school romance stories smile

What is "I.S."? I looked it up here and there's no info.

Try reading Nodame Cantabile. Its a really good Josei manga and im sure you would really like it (if not love it?). Also i would look into buying the licensed Del Rey translation of it or seeing if your town library (or librarys) has it, because there are only 3 chapters of it are scanlated, were as Del Rey has 8 volumes of it out right now. Also here are some other seires you should check out (there not Josei, but they are good): sence you like Eternal Sabbath you should try reading MARS (its from the same mangaka), Cantarella is a good read, theres Paradise Kiss, Nana, Perfect Girl Evolution (AKA The Wallflower) which is a fun read, Anatolia Story (AKA Red River) a good old manga thats nice and mature, and then theres Antique Bakery which is a shounen-ai manga with great characters and a fun good story that you might like.

I've actually read most of those. I'm watching Nodame Cantabile (anime) now and I adore Nodame but not as much as Sunako. I have read everything you've listed byt Cantarella and Anatolia Story. I'll check those out. Thanks for the suggestions! biggrin

mmm..If you like the tone and plot in Cantarella, may I recommend Alichino? The art is delightful and the tone is appropriately dark.

And if you are looking for a touch of romance that isn't all peaches and cream, Absolute Boyfriend (aka Zettai Kareshi) is good, and Shura to Otome by Kayono. (actually, I like most of her works because the plots and personalities of the main characters are fairly well varied.)
