Quote from grandexeno
girls in an household, are simply bossy and sometimes malevolent. Guess its because they are insecure and try everyday to secure their personal space/rights. Never seen a male behaving like this. :3

"Simply" might indicate that they have no real reason to order males around other than to just make their lives miserable. After all, nothing ever needs to be done that can't be put off for forever or never, right? ;) bigrazz

And with that last sentence, are you honestly going to pretend that there are NO alpha males in this entire world? Hell, men get scared of women's power in the workplace so why would other men not be threatened by other men and scare them? If men were 100% okay with each other, maybe they could have kept everybody suppressed and without any powers or rights. embarrassed

[Edit] Other stuff:

Well if the setup is strong girl picks on/beats up weak guy, do you think it just might be that the Japanese male who is the reader is more likely to relate to this kind of character? I personally feel that Asian males tend to be more submissive (the people in the Japanese gangs probably don't count) and I've met another older woman who understood my thinking so I'm probably not alone in my thinking.

If a Japanese alpha male was put next to other alpha males of other backgrounds, or if 100 of either party were "tested" with how they treated females, which would be more dominating or commanding over the female?

Lol

I used to live with 2 of my sisters and my brother, and I can say that it totally depends on the culture and the environment of the house you live.

is just that most of the time the girls have preference and if you beat your sister you can expect your parents to get back at you (physically or economically or both...) most guys avoid the whole issue and any problems, by letting the girls do whatever they want, but at the same time most of us set limits, every time one of my sisters went over the limit I would get my revenge (sometimes in a physical and extremely painful way eek "HEY the effect has to last or I would be in a silly war with them" ) because all the problems and pain was worth the fact of putting my sister in her place.

PS: Locks... to almost Break a finger "or not almost"... anything that would heal overtime and wouldn't left a mark >_>

That doesn't work, they have to feel pain or humiliation other wise they will want to have revenge, my point was to prove that messing with me would equal to a lot of troubles and I wanted to make them feel that it wasn't worth it (most of the time)

How you achieve peace? when everyone has a nuke arsenal to back them up, if anyone mess with another person "BAMN" The end of the world >_>

Fear is the best way to keep people under control, that is socials 101

Uh, when I read your post, I almost laughed. I absolutely hated how shoujo (usually) makes the female protagonist an absolute wimp with no good features at all, and then the jerk (yet amazingly perfect, hot, strong, smart, romantic) guy wins her over, in a couple of volumes of blushing and annoyingness. Or the cool, smart and strong female turn into Jell-o the moment the even BETTER guy shows up. Sorta the opposite, huh?
That may just be 'cause it's shoujo, though.
I guess the mangaka's just think, "If I'm targeting towards guys, let's make the girl annoying, if I'm targeting towards girls, let's make the guy a jerk." I think it's a Japanese thing. No offense intended to anyone who cares. Different cultural stuff, I guess.

Seriously, if you want to read something where the main guy literally ALWAYS wins and saves the cute protagonist, read some shoujo. Like Special A I sorta wanted to hit Kei with a truck. Though knowing the mangaka, even that wouldn't kill him. Although, in most shoujo, there does seems to be an annoying lack of action... anyway, seinen will probably be better, too. Most ecchi/harem stuff have the guy as a wimp, so that can't really be helped. Watch some stuff like Fate Stay Night where even though the guy isn't all that powerful in the beginning, he get's cooler in the end. Hm... although now that I think about it, Tohsaka and Saber are way cooler...biggrin

Most of the authors are men. Generally, you don't have a pimp drawing manga, which means that the mangaka's views of women are generally of a superior, elitist figure.

I thought that this thread was locked months ago...

Well, luckily I'm not as naive when I first got here. I'm possibly even more naive. laugh

Yeah, I hate how majority of media (not just manga/anime in general) can't portray a strong female character -- strong being well-crafted, not physically strong. Otae from Gintama, for example, annoyed the living hell out of me whenever she came on-screen. Sometimes I wonder if authors create female characters and design their interactions based on what they perceive of real women. Maybe they really do think of us as either a) a pair of walking, talking breasts or b) things that constantly nag but things that you can't argue with or else they get offended and they'll cry and you'll be seen as a jerk.

In response to that, some character designers/directors/whatever will try to make their female characters better by giving them a bigger pair of boobs, a huge gun, and a snappy tongue, as if to justify why we're allowed to rule anime and manga. Normally, I'd call that a cheeky slut that can do anything physically/mentally possible, but whatever.

Read shoujo manga. It's the exact opposite.
Maybe an enormous percentage of Japan just likes being dommed.

You know you guys don't have to post in this thread anymore. I realized what I need to look out for way back in 2009...

You probably just read too much harem manga.

But yes, women are taking over the world. It's freakin' scary. Men, to your posts! PUT THEM BITCHES BACK WHERE THEY BELONG.
