That goes for me too.

Nodame. I like her randomness and weirdness. =3
Although I agree her personality is a bit childish, but that's okay. Plus, it's not like she's a meek character. =3

I loooove Sumire from Kimi Wa Pet. She's a strong, independent woman in the weak, submissive ghetto that is manga.

Two words. "Mukya" and "Gyabo".
(That signifies Nodame for those unawares.)

Oh, but I forgot Yuiko from Fujoshi Kanojo! Words cannot describe my love for Yuiko. She's a strong, independent working woman, she's gorgeous, she's dominant in her relationship, and she's a fujoshi! <3

I totally agree with you with Asaoka Yuuri and of course Nodame. I also want to add Kuze Chouko from Chou yo Hana You. I like the personalities of these girls, funny, nice and not weak or annoying.

Nodame, Nodame, Nodame, Nodame,Nodame, Nodame, Nodame.............
Pretty much Nodame since she's just the most randomest heroine ever. But special mentions to Yankumi from Gokusen, and Sumire from Kimi wa Petto. Their WAAAY better than the crappy heroines you see in other genres like shoujo. Though, the characters in Nana, which is actually a shoujo, has characters that you can actually relate to.

Miu from Nana (see avatar) - Yasu said it himself: she has insight and foresight. She confronts Yasu about her position in their relationship if the woman he truly loves becomes single in an admirably serious way that shows she understands she is not his first choice but accepts it as long as he also accepts the possibility of a new love. Despite Miu's hangups, I find her awesomely grounded and realistic. She's not trying for the happy ending, but trying to find peace.
Yamada from Honey and Clover - She's Ironman!! She can give guys concussions with her monster kicks! On top of that, she unwittingly seduces men around her with her shapely figure and innocent enthusiasm. She cries an awful lot in the series, but I still end up sympathizing. Yamada reminds you that love isn't sweet at all. It SUCKS.
Hagu from Honey and Clover - Tiny and mousy, she's a tiger in the art world. Her cutesiness is contagious and her adult insights are profound in their selflessness when it comes to romantic love. She's just a woman to be admired.
Maria from Akuma to Love Song - technically shoujo, but Maria kicks enough ass that I like to consider her josei material. XD She stands up for herself and for others, doesn't take crap, tries to better herself constantly (much to my amusement...LOVELY TRANSFORMATION!), can see through people's true intentions, and is gorgeous to boot.
Maho from Beck - okay, also technically not josei but Maho has a way of drawing out the best in others. She will also not hesitate to kick your ass if you cross a line. She has a mouth and is at times INCONSTANT in her affections, but she'll just drive you more crazy because her unpredictability is part of her charm. She ROCKS.
Oh yeah. You better believe I have more on my list.
