When the main girl is stupid & the main guy is smart.
Girl likes guy... guy doesn't know & can't take a hint.
Guy finds out & always liked her too *fake gasp*
Girl dates guys.. someone gets in the way.
The guy tells the "person in the way" that she is his... blah blah blah...
They live happily ever after!

=P

... That pretty much sums it up =D

Not sure if this counts as a cliche, but when Girl A meets Oh So Talented Boy B and then falls deeply in love and then goes from being independent to being dependent on Boy B and becomes a dead weight the rest of her life.

I think the worst cliche in most shoujo mangas are the love triangle. I guess I can get two guys being in love with the same girl if they all grew up together or at least one of them does, but to have just met the girl and an instant love triangle ensues? Very unrealistic.

agreed. it is so unrealistic when all of the guys are in love with the same girl. no exceptions.

Worst cliche..
Some RANDOM bishie suddenly claiming a girl, "SHE'S MINE" eventhough they just met.

another cliche? Guys randomly stealing girl's 'first kissu'..lol, a 'kiss' is overly dramatised these days...

Ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend comes back into the picture.

Heroines who presume the worst instead of just boning up and ASKING THE GUY.

Someone (may or may not be a best friend) who was originally nice becomes obsessive and tries to break the main couple up. (Girl/guy that we like suddenly becomes mean.)

Badly done love triangles. (I'm not opposed to them, but make them intelligent.)

I really hate these ones. They happen so much and they always feel like filler.

Scary MLI fanclubs allieganced to the "He belongs to all of us" cause. You know, because MLI isn't human, he's a god of some sort because he's a cool, athletic, super smart, all around perfect bishounen. And somehow, he doesn't know that the dreaded fanclub exists or that the dreaded fanclub is scaring away/torturing/beating up/bullying the main lead. And he's also unaware why he never gets a steady girlfriend.

And, of course, when a large group of intimidating looking girls who have been unsupportive of the main lead suddenly dating or always being around the MLI asks to meet this main lead in private after school on the roof, well... of course, go and meet them by all means. There's nothing wrong with it, cause we'll all just sit around and drink tea and discuss this dating the MLI matter.

Yea, I've always found these fan clubs a bit scary and unreal. I hope these don't really exist.

And there's my soap box.

Another cliche I don't quite like is the one where the bishounen is always super smart and super cool and everyone loves him to death, but the main lead is the most useless living organism on earth (i.e. can't keep up with school work, can't think for herself, can't cook, can't keep house clean, can't do anything physical, can't get a clue, and can't even walk across the street without being hit by a car). Come on now, there has to be a shoujo manga heroine out there who's at least able to breathe without being coached, right?

Okay, so I'm going a little overboard with that last one. I know there are very cool shoujo heroine out there (Hanabi Ozora from H3 School is my favorite shoujo manga heroine who can still hold her own). But I can't quite stand why if a shoujo heroine is going to be stupider than the bishounen MLI, then she has to be at the bottom of the pits and not be able to do anything at all. Is it cuter that way?

Yea... don't get my started on why I'm not satisfied with a lot of the shoujo manga heroine created. I might keep going. But alas, I love reading shoujo manga so much that sometimes it's just not too bad. When you find a cool heroine like Mogami Kyoko or Koshiba Kiri or like Hime in PxP, then it's all worth it.

My favorite shoujo cliches, surprisingly, actually involve the school trips or onsen visits. I also like the reverse harm, cross dressing cliche (a la Hana Kimi or Power), the nerd girl turns cinderella cliche (which may or may not be manga associated), and sometimes, depending on how its written, I like some of the main lead gets rescued by MLI for certain reasons not pertaining to getting her own stupid self into trouble when she new very well not to do such a thing.

Step-siblings fall in love cliches can be good sometimes, but I have a problem with teacher-student relationships (a bit disturbing).

And now that I've rambled everyone on top of my soap box, I'll kindly step back down and be on my merry way. Sorry about the extremely long post. I tend to get carried away.

Oh yea, while I'm still at it, another subject was brought up that I really don't like: The main bishounen always, always, always has some sort of dark past or family problems that either the main heroine needs to help fix, or will never understand and ends up making things worse for him. And yet, they fall in love and live happily every after anyway. Not all plots where the "guys with mysterious dark pasts" are that alluring. Not just in shoujo manga, but I've read a few stories and novels with that same dilemma.

I, too, also gave up on wishing away the love triangle a long time ago-- though I still don't like it.

I hate it when the girl chooses the new rebellious bad boy in her life over the kind and caring boy who was always there for her.

I'm usually all for the kind, caring good boy. But then, as you said it, the one who ends up getting the girl is always the cold, mean, secretly nice but can't show it, arrogant bad boy. A bit overdone much?

the too perfect i-dont-make-mistakes bishounen with the im-dumber-than-a-chicken girl who has a redeeming point of being optimistic and happy all the time...

the guy has a dark past and clings to the happy girl...did i mention that the boy also has bishounen friends...who are rich and the bishie is also rich himself...

and then they would all fall for the girl...it would be difficult for the people of the nation to know who will she chose.. ofcourse cause all of them are such hot- cool- intelligent- bishies...who will the slutty and idiotic girl choose?? the bishies will now make random advances at her...making it harder...and ofcourse the main girl wouldnt fight...because shes dumb!!

man i hate em!! then ofcourse the girl will still go with the guy whom she first met...even though there is someone better...just for the sake of art!!!

another one is the bishounen or bishoujo who is totally dense about the people who are crushing over them...and sometimes not even aware of their own feelings!! <but sometimes this is good, mostly depends on how its expressed>

despite of all the bad cliches...shoujo is still somehow sweet~ eyes

I don't really like how the guy with the most tragic past seems to almost always win in the love triangle. I know its the sake for having a plot somewhere but still.

Oh, anything and everything that Shinjo Mayu does. *shudder*

The worst shoujo cliche is obviously the perfect, cool, handsome guy with the angel face and the shy, cute girl. That's why I don't read shoujo.

Oh em gee, there are so many...
-The impossibly perfect bishie
-The pretty female character always complaining about how ugly/plain she is, or having others say that about her
-How chronically stupid most heroines are, especially when it comes to romance.
-Shinjo Mayu. Period.
-Artwork that looks the same: same girl, same guy, same supporting characters.
-How you know, right away, who the heroine will end up with, and the whole multi-volume plot is just about them finally getting there when a chapter could have sufficed (unless the material inbetween is entertaining)
-Guys with sparkles and flowers around them whenever they smile. Gah, no. NO.

There are so many other ones to mention, but I'm going to just stop myself here. There is still plenty of good shoujo out there, even if they have a cliche or two.

xD Haha, this is so funny to read - you remember all the times when you were reading and thinking "Wait, haven't this happened before?"

I don't know if anyone said this one but ... the nurse ?? Why is the nurse never there? xP
The main person trips (yes, another clumsy shoujo girl) and the hot guy carries her to the infirmary, but ... the nurse isn't there. They are alone bigrazz
I don't think I have ever read a shoujo where the nurse is actually working ;P

555+ I agree with you. where the nurse?

I actually not bore with cliche moment but If it's too predictable, I don't like it.
