a long manga with good story
(20 posts, 4700 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
There are so many on here I could second it would take too long to mention them all.

I want to add

Banana Fish - Probably the best manga ever. 19 volume, brilliant plot, great characters and perfect ending. Don't let the art put you off, this is a gem.

07 Ghost - Still ongo...
New Poll - Manga and Real-Life Friends
(26 posts, 5271 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
Me and my friend have differing tastes, so sometimes there is overlap, but usually not. Plus she much prefers anime whereas I barely find time to watch anime between all my manga, so we rarely, if ever, discuss it.
Manga about broken/failed to be realized dream?
(5 posts, 567 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Skip Beat to a degree. The dream is broken right at the start and the rest is about revenge and bouncing back.

Let Dai - Maybe, it probably more about growing up and finding yourself than anything tbh, but I guess the end of childhood can be considered the breaking of chil...
New Poll - Living in Japan
(48 posts, 8665 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
I already live in Japan. I've been here 3 years and I love it. I came without speaking any Japanese at all, and live in the inaka, so there is little reason for people here to learn English. Still, everyone is really patient with me, really understanding, and very very ki...

hmmm, not sure how well these match because there are lasting companions from fairly early on, but

07 Ghost -Teito loses the vast majority of the people he loves and ends up a slave, but the manga starts at this point and the losses are shown as flashbacks.

Want to Start a Group with a great purpose

Lemon Tea Scans is a group which works exclusively on dropped manga. I know they could use the help if you're interested. It would be easier to join an established group than it would be to start a new one. http://lemonteascans.wordpress.com/.
intelligent use of power
(20 posts, 4000 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Death Note is the obvious choice.

Full Metal Alchemist is another obvious choice.

Banana Fish. Ok, so there's not actual super powers involved, but this is a great manga for complex power plays and intelligent strategies as opposed to just going into a fight guns blazing h...
What is the best classic manga you have read?
(21 posts, 4909 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Manga General
I'm not sure what you would consider classic, but I think of classic as manga that has stood the test of time and remains popular years after it has ended. For me, these are

Banana Fish - Possibly the greatest manga I have ever read. I have read it more times that I can co...
Manga for learning Japanese
(8 posts, 2127 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I agree with Alaena, reading a manga you love and already has an English translation is a great way to keep your motivation, challenge yourself, and check your translation, but I would advise caution in what you pick up. My first choice when I started using manga to learn...
Search for specific tragic yaoi manga
(4 posts, 1613 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
That's good. I was worried that I had been too specific in my search when only 4 results came up and only one seemed to fit at all. Glad I could help, biggrin
Search for specific tragic yaoi manga
(4 posts, 1613 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I did a search for dramatic, psycological Yaoi with rape, love triangle/s and unrequited love and of all the results Kimi no Kao ni Sasu Kage seems to fit the most. I read a little of the last chapter and one of the characters is in some kind of waking coma-like state as ...

Seinen - 2.8%

New Poll - Demographic Hate
(156 posts, 29012 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
Naturally, there are some demographic/genres I read more than others, so it is hard to compare given my very limited experience with hentai or yuri in comparison to shounen or josei. Also, I like manga based on the story and characters, not the demographic, so I tend to r...
Manga about anorexia, anxiety or depression

Quote from RattixEmpire
I have seen Watashi no Shiawase no jikan, but i am worried about how it is going to end, because, well, someone on death row, is on death row. I don't want it to have an ending like, he is dead now, but it is ok, I can do this.

Without spoiling it, ...
Manga about anorexia, anxiety or depression
(12 posts, 17482 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Cut deals with self-harm and PTSD in a realistic way, but has a couple of pretty graphic gay sex scenes (the first one in particular is pretty intense and it made me think this was mindless porn, but it got really good so don't give up.) It is also hopeful and a humourous...
New Poll - Optimal Story Length
(33 posts, 6049 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
It's not the length that matters, but the quality of the story. Having said that, I tend to favour long mangas, but not ones which never end.

I hadn't noticed that, I feel very dense now, lol. I agree that the other 3 focus on BL a lot more than your suggestions. The stories are still good, but if you are very anti-BL, then you may no like them.

But true that they'r...

From all the titles @CuthienSilmeriel suggests, I only second Banana Fish, since the other titles focus way too much on boys love compared to what you're looking for.

But seriously, try out Banana Fish, it's one of my all-time favorites, but it takes a ...
looking for mafia,yakuza, etc manga
(13 posts, 9904 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Banana Fish - May fit. It focuses more of the mafia world from the view of the street gangs they use, but it is complex and deals with the violence, politics, and crimes of the mafia. There isn't much in the way of women (for a good reason) but there isn't any hentai or y...
true identity/hidden power
(32 posts, 12127 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Non-supernatural

Banana Fish - Ash is a genius in both intellect and skill. He doesn't really try to hide it, but he doesn't really embrace it either. Plus, even his closest allies aren't aware of exactly how good he is or why. The story is very complex, gritty, and very r...
recommend me an anime please
(27 posts, 2864 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I second Code Geass. Even though it is a mecha anime, it has a fastically complicated plot and is a really engaging story, with romantic subplots, but more realistic romance tan just "boy meets girl and they live happily ever after. The end"

I also suggest Macross, SDF Mac...

No prob. ^^;

I've seen people mistook josei manga as some other kind of genre in the past. (Incredibly, even when they're on the series info page, they still get some of them wrong. Boggles me, but whatever...) ^__^ We definitely don't want people to mi...
