(265 posts, 27367 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
I have 2 if you count both ears as 1 and my belly button makes 2. It took 3 attempts to get my ears pierced, the first was when I was 11 and the stub went inside my ear, I had to go to casulty to get it out. The second attempt was a year later, and it got infected. My 3rd...
President Election: Obama VS Romney
(91 posts, 15413 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
Not that I have a say in the matter, but if I did, I'd vote Obama, simply because Romney would deny some of my very good friends the right to marry the person they love. I understand that it is against his religion, I am also a Christian, but religion should have absolute...
Mangafox and Mangahere
(26 posts, 6691 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
Keep spreading the word about Mangafox. Personally I'm a fan of buying the manga, but I am lucky enough to live in Japan where I can get it very cheaply and without any censoring or editing you sometimes see in English manga.

For many people, buying manga is not an option...
Hardships of being a ruler/future ruler
(19 posts, 2113 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I also second Vampire Juujikai

Also try Break blade - I've only just started this, but it deals with the balance of old friendship and new responsabilities when war breaks out. The main character is a commoner, but his close friends are a king and commander of opposing arm...
New Poll - Hanami
(20 posts, 3122 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
I go for the good company. Sure the trees are very pretty, and I like trying new flavours of dango, but really everything is so much better with good friends, good alcohol and good music.
Tragedies with a satisfying ending
(9 posts, 2500 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Banana Fish - This is the most heart breaking, captivating, inspiring, and fulfilling manga I have ever read. I've re-read it dozens of times, and it never fails to get boring. Don't let the art put you off (I let it put me off for ages and regretted it once I started to ...

I finished my undergraduate degree in Bioveterinary Science 2 years ago. I'm currently taking a break to teach Englsh in Japan. I hope to go on to do a Masters in general medical science and a PhD in something genetics or infectious disease related, possibly in Japan, pos...
homosexual marriage
(106 posts, 13848 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
I'm 23, born and raised in North England. My mother raised me and my siblings as Church of England christians, but my dad is an atheist so our house isn't very religious and we were allowed to make out own choice when we were teenagers. I chose to become confirmed and am ...
What would you do to manga you dislike?
(18 posts, 2027 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Manga General
I put all manga I can't finish because they are so bad into the unfinished list. Some manga which I started when I was young and have been reading for year, but no longer really enjoy, I put on the 'on hold' list, because there is a chance that I will, one day, go back an...
Tite Kubo - The Best Poet In Manga?
(20 posts, 5381 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Bleach
I pretty much agree with everything Creshie said. His read more like something a 10 year old would write as a homework assignment than a true literary artist. I won't talk about the over whelming number of beutiful prose and poetry I find in novels, but in manga and manhw...

Battle of Wits
(8 posts, 2673 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I second Banana Fish

Also try
Akagi - The protagonist is a Maijong prodigy. It's all a little dramatic, but is purely based on the battles of wit and strategy.

Sanctuary - A bit more of a plot line, with lots of action thrown in. It is more akin to Banana Fish, but with Yak...

Are bleach fans a dying breed ?
(105 posts, 18771 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Bleach
I used to love Bleach, but it got repetitive with fights lasting several chapters, and multi-character fights stretching into months. The plot didn;t seem to be going anywhere, and Ichigo started to irritate me with his dense personality. I guess I got bored, or discovere...
What would you label yourself [besides otaku]?
(230 posts, 30061 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
I'm far too unique to be labelled.
How large is your manga collection?
(237 posts, 52945 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Manga General
It wasn't so big physically, then I moved to Japan and started to work.
Lots of money + cheap manga = exponential growth of my collection.
Now I have about 8 series in English, and about 20 in Japanese. It totals about 100 volumes (which is still pretty small I'll grant)....
Something deep
(24 posts, 4009 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
Banana Fish - The art style is unique and is very love/hate (I personally love it because it's more realistic than mangas full of bishies), but the story is very deep, complex and never boring. It's completely scanlated and has the perfect ending.

Let Dai - More emotion b...
New Poll - Known Languages
(119 posts, 20886 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
By your definition - 2. I'm fluent in English (being English and all), and apparently know Japanese as I can read, write, and have conversations in it. However, I only know half of the standard 2000 kanji you need to know, my intonation sucks, and I still need help in day...
mangas with unique personality male lead
(13 posts, 6034 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I'm going to interpret unique as not the typical male protagonists found in shounen and shoujos.

Banana Fish - is packed full of unique personalities, by which I mean they actually have personalities.

07 Ghost - Teito is pretty unique, he looks weak, is actually strong bu...
New Poll - Author vs. Artist
(36 posts, 7493 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
I wouldn't choose not to read a manga because I disliked a previous work, but I will choose to read a manga based on plot, not art. I appreciate good art, but I don't let 'bad' art put me off a good story. banana fish is my favourite manga, and its art is criticised (thou...
Your Religion
(490 posts, 64800 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in Chatter Box
I'm a Church of England Christian. My Mum is the same, and she raised all 3 of us as Christians. My Dad is an atheist. I stop believing in God around aged 11, and jokingly converted to Jedi when I was 12. (I have nothing against Jedi as a religion, but I admit I only did ...

No, but we get on much better now I live on a different continent.
New Poll - Cheaper Paper
(57 posts, 9260 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in News
My purchases of manga increased exponentially when I moved to Japan and manga became insanely cheap. Even a brand new volume is less than half the cost it would be for an older volume in England, and when I go to a used book store I can buy 3 volumes for 100 yen.

The othe...
Questioning life/existence
(9 posts, 1644 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in I'm Looking For...
I second Sanctuary

Also

Nijigahara Holograph - i don't even know how to describe this one. It is a psychological and complex story, spanning 10 years and multiple people. It's very dark and grim and looks at the value of life, the reason for existance, and the meaning of f...
Japan Earthquake and Tsunami - 1 year later.
(7 posts, 1211 views) Posted: over 12 years ago by CuthienSilmeriel in User Announcements
Well, victims doesn't just mean the human ones. I also pray for the animal victims as well.

I don't think the fact the people are dying every day means we should stop thinking or caring about them. I could easily apply the same logic to Haiti or the Horn of Africa. The fa...
