Of course I would try reading it right away. I mean who would not? Your favorite mangaka suddenly writes something in an unexpected genre? (they wouldnt be your favorite if they didnt usually write a genre you enjoy)
It would be something novel to check out at the very least.

Shounen audiences want cool male leads, shoujo audiences wants cool or cute male romantic interests; everybody wants strong main characters, or at least interesting ones...
No one, noboy wants the male lead to be a simpering, callow, shallow, no self esteem little dipshit....

These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer - The female lead has passed as a boy for many years and spends a good chunk of the novel as a page (young male servant). Not fantasy/SF, but Heyer is one of my favorite authors and I generally only read fantasy/SF...
