Post a genre that you hate, and let others try to change your mind
(195 posts, 32233 views) Posted: over 10 years ago by Saons in Manga General
The genres I dislike are ecchi, sports, harem, mecha and yaoi. But I've certainly found a few series that I liked within these genres.
Child porn in Japan

I feel like there are a lot of cultural, socio-political aspects I am ignorant of going into the laws, but I believe them to be too lax.
New Poll - Same-Sex Romances

I put "I'm a girl, and I avoid both types". This sounds like I'm close-minded, but in truth I hate reading yaoi/yuri because I find them typically more offensive to the LGBT than other types of manga are to their corresponding demographic (harem, ecchi, etc). They're offe...

Cat Street, if I remember correctly. But it's got a lot of other drama smile
what makes a manga "cliche"
(9 posts, 1725 views) Posted: over 10 years ago by Saons in Manga General
More for how the cliches are written then the actual use of them. Try to imagine a story you know that DOESN'T have a cliche of some sort. Girl falls in love, etc. Cliche's don't make a story bad, per se, it's the overuse of them. Sometimes I just see cliche after cliche ...
Favorite Webcomic

Kisswood. Gorgeous art and an even more unique story. Just a fascinating read all around.

The Pale Horse. A murder mystery of sorts, with an excellent plot line full of twists.
New Poll - Manga vs Others

I have to say I really like webcomics, at least, the asian-author ones. I've read a few western-author ones that ranged from decent to amazing, but they tend to be dropped for whatever reason (Hanna is not a Boy's Name, for example).

I've just read a lot of webcomics that ...
Have you met any famous people?
(5 posts, 1108 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
The closest I've gotten is:

My brother played with Dan Aykroyd's daughter, I'm guessing Danielle (same birth year). And they were so young he doesn't remember! Haha. I think my dad was designing him a house or lake house or something.

I think most people here are--rightfully so--treating this moral dilemma as inconsequential because it isn't possible, hence the majority "yes" answers. However, I think the majority of those "yes" answers are people just pretending to be cool heartless badasses for the s...
Disabled Children - Abortion?
(63 posts, 8460 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
It really depends. My sister's got down's syndrome and autism. My mother only knew about the down's syndrome when she was in the womb, as her autism was regressive, and obviously kept her because down's can be very high functioning (though the autism proved her very much ...
NEW MIYAZAKI MOVIE?!!
(14 posts, 2731 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
Ponyo was such a letdown, I'm not setting my hopes too high. Miyazaki might be too far from the days of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away sad I'll definitely be giving it a shot, though.
A lighthearted, happy story
(13 posts, 1523 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in I'm Looking For...
Hi there, I'm really depressed today so I was hoping people could lead me to some really upbeat, happy mangas. They don't necessarily have to be comedy, either. Just something with a lot of happy. Genre doesn't matter, as long as it's not extremely ecchi. Oh, yeah, and no...
Which game are you looking forward to the most?

The Last of Us, mainly. I wouldn't mind trying out the new Animal Crossing or Bravely Default if it comes to NA (which it probably won't within this year).

and The Last Guardian... please come out!!! cry

Girls, what do you think about female characters with XXL boobs?
(81 posts, 17436 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Manga General
Large breasts obviously exist, and I would actually love to read a story where it was used without constantly being something to point out sexually. However, when they're just used for "ecchi purposes" and flop around like water balloons I cringe.

First, women with breast...
Need feedback on my digital art!

I'll point out some things I've noticed.
You need to add depth!!
For both (especially the first one) it looks too chaotic -- you need to have some sort of backlighting that pushes them out of the background. But the hair and the clothes don't have a lot of value, so they lo...

Definitely seconding Kisswood.

Peter Panda
Juuoku Shoujo (though this is the glasses-transformation kind)
Miunohri to Swan (and this is some magical transforming kind)

Bara no Tameni is probably the closest to what you want, though.
► ◄Triangles?!?!? ▲ ▼
(16 posts, 4433 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Shoujo/Josei
I can't think of a worst love triangle--there's too many.
As for best, I think it was probably Kanata Kara, because it actually served a purpose. As opposed to just delaying the plot, it helped the main guy realize his feelings for the main girl, and you knew that the oth...

Well that's only slightly offensive. Luckily the majority of the world disagrees with you; they're typically found to be quite endea...
Dimples survey
(11 posts, 1608 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
Interesting! I have dimples, but not everyone in my family has them. All I remember is that it's a defect: a shortened facial muscle. I would like to see the results of this survey!

/I can't seem to access the survey. Might just be me, but you should maybe post another lin...
The Hobbit! seen it yet?
(23 posts, 2964 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
Saw it! Loved it. And I love the novel too, so even though there's a lot of differences, they're each their own piece. Take into account that film is a different genre of storytelling when you go to see it, that is, if you're easily offended by changes from the novel. ...

Your Dream Guy
(59 posts, 9116 views) Posted: over 11 years ago by Saons in Chatter Box
I have to say that I'm not very shallow. I don't mean to sound holier than those that are particular, it's just who I am. I'm not really attracted to a guy until I know what he's like--his personality. I like a guy with a sense of humour, but is mature. His weight or size...
