yeah its shounen, but its not the typical shounen garbage that your talking about, you will definately enjoy it. On a side note I am probably recommending this one too much, but meh I don't care its too good.

How about when the main protaganist or one of his abundant sidekicks yells out their crappy goal. Like MY DREAM IS TO BE The BEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD!!!!! and their love interest or friends look at them with admiration instead of thinking they're an idiot.

I think the first one fits your criteria a bit there. and as for Hoshi . . . he doesn't start out strong but he becomes extremely powerful through some awesome character development.

Hoshi no Samidare

Has almost every thing you desire in a manga. The name makes it seem a little off, but trust me this is a great read. Depending on how the ending goes it may be my favorite manga of all time.
