Kishi only knows how to write orphans and it shows--Oh! it shows.

If Naruto Gaiden was a person it would be a forty year old alcoholic, living in the squalor of its burnt out shell, still repeating all the mistakes it made when it was twenty and smelling faintly like cheap tequila and regret.

Look, the plot with Sakura’s kid what’s-her-name where she doesn’t know who her real parents are—that is Naruto’s story, which Kishi already fucked up. You have the chance to explore the world of Naruto from a completely different perspective, why the fuck would you go back to the same fucking people and the same fucking story? Also you can’t make Sasuke or glasses-girl-Karin interesting, and you can’t make them together interesting, you just can’t. They are black holes of story and intrigue, whenever the plot hands them something it’s just like, I’m not suicidal but I sure would like to kill myself.

The big problem with Naruto Gaiden, of course, is that it’s so fucking directionless. It’s not driven by a plot or even character tension right now, because the only character tension is from Sakura’s kid what’s-her-name and she’s terrible. The plot is like Kishi reading what critics write for once and saying, screw you, I have money, because seriously, another person who shouldn’t have the sharingan has the sharingan? We have only been here nine hundred times before, how thrilling. At this point you might as well give out sharingan to everybody, one creepy eye for you, another creepy eye for you and I swear, Naruto is like, the only manga where we can have a whole fucking arc about contact lenses.

Anyway the original series also followed adolescents, but it was interesting because Naruto was a kid who had to deal with complex situations and emotions he barely understood and had zero guidance for, but who had to do it anyway. He was lonely, which made him act out, which only confirmed other people’s suspicion, which made him even lonelier. He was supposed to be terrifying, but he was the worst at anything he did, and that, that is complication and complexity.

Sakura’s kid what’s-her-name has to deal with none of that, and look, it’s very common for kids her age to feel like they don’t belong in their own family, but there is nowhere near enough interaction between her and Sakura to justify it. If Kishi wants to have these kids angst, he needs to be willing to make Sakura and Naruto and their friends flawed parents. Hell, he needs to be able to write compelling parent-children dynamics, not just orphan them all or have the parents be out of the picture like he always does. Does that make sense?

Tl;dr everything about this is a bad idea

Decent I guess, but unnecessary

Being surrounded by Tumblr spoilers and not reading it until it was finished, I knew most of what happened before reading it. I was expecting to be highly disappointed, possibly even angered (enough people on Tumblr were). Putting all Tumblr rants aside, it was pretty descent. That is if it were a stand-alone manga. That's the thing that gets me. It doesn't feel like Naruto. It felt like a comedic (because of Chouchou) soup opera with a tiny bit of Naruto. Besides the fighting, the only bits that had the same feeling that Naruto usually has was when Naruto discussed bonds with Sarada and when Sasuke answered her question about Sakura in the final chapter. Anyway, I just find the ending to Naruto a let down in general. It seems like Kishimoto just wrapped things up quick and easy when there was a lot more potential to be had.

and still we have the sharingan & uchia at the center of everything

A time skip and a new title "The Seventh Hokage" and still the story revolves around sasuke, the sharingan and the uchia. Remember in naruto when sasuke defeated pretty much every villian introduced in the 1st season like orochimaru, kabito and itachi as well as chopped off the raikage's hand and even hurt Bee? Big wonder that not much has changed. This story should have been changed to "Sasuke" a long time ago.

Somethings never change... and naruto is one of them. Is there a need for an in-depth review of this manga? I think after so many years of Naruuutooooooo and Sasukeeeeeeee, that we would really like just a happy, sweet, gentle, lovely, beautiful, sad, but always happy ending to a long long LONG journey. Please we just need some kind of closure, kinda like this review!

PS. As a side note, I would die to read a story about Juriah. Maybe even make one called "The epic tells of a pervy sage". now that's a money maker >.<

Bland as f*** ending

Seriously, Kishi really doesn't know how to write good endings.
I mean yeah, I predicted that it'd end up the way it did but I just don't feel like the spin-off got a proper wrap-up. It's like Kishi couldn't be bothered to make a splash ending and just wanted to write a bland as f*** normal ending. I expected an awesome revelation or something. What did he even start a new spin-off for anyways? He just ended up reusing the same old themes he used in Naruto again. Sigh, maybe it's because I've been reading Naruto for too long. I just thought this spin-off deserved a good wrap-up. Man, it had to end like this, just when I started to really like Sarada. Giving it a 6 just because I liked Sarada. Would've given it a 5.

Unnecessary

This is the perfect example of why you should not continue a story after showing the flash-forward. You should always leave your readers wanting more and not saying "I never asked for this". Other than one revelation, the entire series turned out to be useless and akin to beating a dead horse.

Edit:
Should add that BlackOrion sounds extremely biased and his review calling out other reviewers for not liking what he likes is highly hypocritical. Instead, disregard his tainted review and read the manga (in the end it's just 10 chapters) and see for yourself why a majority are letdown by it.

Some nice parts but the all Sasuke plot seems rushed. If there was a Naruto 2 (Like dragon ball Z) then the all family drama would have been better suited there (more time to actually do things properly )

However it´s still a fun read for those who liked Naruto

Fun spin off

People getting to overhype over nothing. Kishimoto was already done with chapter 700. Then the mangaka wanted him to continue so he just did a fun short spin off as other mangaka do after a story is completed. The drama isn't needed in the story. But it still feels wonderful too see some of these characters again. Now if you want a true ending read or watch bourto the movie.

The idea of having the next generation of naruto be in the previous generations huge shadow was great. I was really looking forward to how they will try and escape this and make their own identity, but kishi went and fucked everything up, completely. So sarada knows jack about her dad and has daddy issues while she has her dad's old teammate as a mother, in other words sakura never spends time at home or stuff? it's like kishi is making shit up out of nowhere just to force some more *Scary BGM* " Curse Of HATRED!!! " shit. Thats pathetic IMO and this is just a huge let down. takee my advise, wait till the short manga has ended and blitz through it. Its not something u should wait a week for.
