Dark Seed takes Konno Kita's forte - beautiful European-style boarding schools - and adds plenty of European-style magic. Yes, the Harry Potter influence is very apparent, from the character designs to the uniforms to the use of the "Sorcerer's Stone", but Konno's characteristic storytelling style gives this piece its own unique charm. It feels like a tribute, not a knockoff.

Interesting premise, and the character backgrounds were well-done, but story-wise Dark Seed doesn't really have much to offer. It's the kind of manga that would have benefited from a longer, less focused episodic format, as opposed to the single-plot-point-focused format. Unfortunately, the latter is what we get, making it an "okay" read at best.
