Mysterious~

This story seems like it would have some cool fantasy adventure elements to it--- I'm liking this! Only on chapter 13 so far, but I'm invested and intrigued by the plot. The art is gorgeous and full of color, and the dialogue is spunky. This manhwa seems promising.

My summary:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Adele the orphan is adopted into dukedom as a replacement for the duke's lost daughter. In her first life, she is ambushed before her arranged wedding to the "cursed" grand duke, supposedly by her own dad's forces. In her second life, she resolves to live for herself and not shouldering so much abuse from her own family anymore. In the process, she discovers a map leading to a mysterious magical tomb stone in a miracle forest. This intertwines her fate with that of the grand duke's. But the grand duke and her father don't seem to get along...? i'm excited for future updates.

That suit of armour though

Never did I imagine that at one point in my life I would think that a suit of armour as drop dead handsome. The man inside it is fine, but that suit of armour coupled with his personality just rocks. I wouldn't mind if he stays forever inside that armour, lol.

All jokes aside, there is an incredible chemistry between the ML and the FL. The ML is gentle and funny, and the FL is an equal match to him. I was afraid that she would be bland and passive like the FL of The Evil Lady Will Change since both are so lady-like, but I am glad to be wrong.

The only problem I have is the ML's curse. I am not sure what exactly is supposed to be wrong with his left arm. At one point the FL says that it can't be moved, but in chapters prior to that we can clearly see that the ML uses his arm just fine. Seems like the artist(s) didn't know the full story and draw chapter by chapter, thus made a mistake. But the problem doesn't affect my enjoyment. I just want to put it out there because I'm not me if not nitpicky.

Conventional Easy Read

Time of Review: Chapter 47 (Somnolent Dog Scans)
Favorite Aspect: The fairy/Fae-centric fantasy
Least Favorite Aspect: Below-average writing and art

While Just Leave Me Be is not the first (or even top twenty) on the list of stories to recommend, it has its own charm and is an easy read if you've already read through all the other good stuff. The mystery of the forest tombstones and the main characters enthusiasm for it is enough to keep reading. I could say the main female lead is a bit dumb, but I just chalk that up to the poor writing.

White the overarching plot and setting are pretty standard, a lot of the finer story details are lacking. Most things move along "just because" and driving plot points are flimsy at best. Many character details crop up out of the blue without prior setup or foreshadowing, making them feel forced and lackluster.

Despite the poor writing, Adele's doing her best and I'm rooting for her in the end. If you enjoy your main character getting saved, or you just like protective men, you'll get a kick out of Hexion. He's lively and expressive despite his dark demeanor. His interactions with Adele's family are entertaining and always gave me a chuckle.

Overall, not necessarily a waste of time if you really hunger for more to read, but there are many stories I would recommend before this one.

You Might Also Like: If you enjoy stories with a "European ambiance" setting stories with light fantasy, try The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion.
If you think suits of armor are hot (lookin' at you, Zurel) try Suitor Armor on webtoon. 😉

Their relationship is very healthy and refreshing BUT the plot itself is pretty boring to read. I feel very uninterested by the forest and tombstones. The text is really chunky to read so most of the time I was skimming.

At first glance, Just Leave Me Be seems like another fix-it story about a dysfunctional father-daughter relationship. This time with extra green hair.

I was delightfully surprised, however, when I found out that that's not what the whole story is about. The MC still has to deal with her dumpster family, yes, BUT! This manhwa has a few mysteries—supernatural ones!!—of its own, and I'll admit I was excited to learn more about it. It's definitely one of the main reasons why I chose to stick around.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I was sorely disappointed when Adele didn't get to explore the mysterious forest again after her last encounter with the fairy in ch 24.

Also, a male lead who's neither cold, expressionless, nor blood thirsty? Who acts like a normal human being and is not as stiff as a human iceberg? Sign me up your honor.✋ There is definitely chemistry between him and the MC, Adele. Still needs a bit of work, though.

Adele is also a pretty good character in her own right. After she's sent back in time, she has one ultimate goal: to free herself of the shackles her "father" had put on her when she was a child. Step by step, she becomes less of a doormat and starts to grow some spine. Obviously, this concept is nothing new and has been done so many times before. But I'm sorta hoping she will bash her family's heads in with a monolith later on. So there's that.

Question:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
In the beginning, everytime Adele goes into the forest, Hexion always follows her there. His excuse is "i saw u so i followed u." Stalker much, bro? Is his tent located near hers or something? Is that why he can easily spot her whenever she runs into the forest? Or perhaps he was lurking around her tent, waiting for her to come out?

P.S. I've only read up to ch 43.

slow start, but interesting lore

I'll be honest, the biggest draw for this series is its lore, both in terms of the in-world history and the fae stuff. everything else is...fairly average. the romance is...not good, but i guess it's not offensive, either. the characters are likewise fine--most of the characters have at least an interesting moment or two, and i do like the female lead. are the tropes surrounding her unique? no. but i don't think they have to be, either.

Boring

This story has everything but interesting storytelling. The leads' characterizations are good, each character has a clear background and motive, no major loopholes, story makes sense, ending is decent, pacing is consistent, artwork is good, etc.; but the story comes off boring. Idk if it's because of the dialogues or just how the story unravels, but I've fallen asleep while reading a few times.

was going fabulously until that 2nd bro entered the story

Argh. Frustrating. I don't like how every significant AND caring male character in this falls for FL. It's a trope of the genre. I. Know. I do know that but I can't help getting frustrated by it.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I hated how the Spy Master is acting around the FL. He could've been a cool older bro type but nooooo. And I won't even go into the stupid, "misunderstood" 2nd brother character. Wow. FL truly is a saintess if she keeps giving even a crumb of acknowledgement to him

One flaw of the otherwise amazing Grand Duke ML: There's NO onscreen repercussions against this bro either when he trespassed onto the Grand Duke's property, whining and throwing tantrums with literal fireballs. This asshole struck the butler hard enough against a wall to CRACK SEVERAL WALLS and pillars inside the mansion. Yet, gets off with a verbal warning. Lost a massive chunk of respect for ML AND FL with that bit of absolute nonsense.

It's also hilariously ironic how FL lightly chastises the staff at the Grand Duke's residence, mistakenly thinking they should "trust him more" (they actually do, it's just her own biases coming through) when she's the one who's been wary of him for literally 30+ chapters. And she never reflects on it. Weird because she occasionally is self aware enough to acknowledge her own short comings.

FL is tolerable at 4.5 but ML? Ooh, boy, ML gets an 8.5 out of 10! I appreciate this ML's sensitivity. And that's all this story has going for it. One amazing, sweet, bumbling but still badass ML. Too bad he's stuck in this kind of story.

[as of chapter 17]

This is tolerable but I find myself regretting the time I spend on it. Every aspect of it feels inferior to betters within the sub-genre.
