Bumped my rating...

...to a 8. (A bit of bias may be involved, but when is there never any bias?)

I admit I have this inexpicable soft spot for Negishi and Arai. Not that I'm some sort of strange pervert who likes reading about underage illicit affairs, but there's always a few chuckles involved when it comes to these two. And what shallowness may have kick-started their relationship is gone after a first few pages delving into Negishi's mind. There's always more than meets the eye, and I love how George Asakura expands on those simple premises and simple emotions and creates such 3D characters without totally spoon-feeding us everything.

After having followed this manga through to the end, I've witnessed a kaleidoscope of emotions that run pretty deep within even characters like "Seiji". Another plus is also that the more mature scenes are never done gratuitously and shed some light into the inner tickings of those particular characters involved.

Heart o Uchinomese! is one of those mangas that reminds us old toads of the range of emotions we felt in our teenage years. I can't always agree with the things these kids do, but I can understand it to a certain extent.

This is seriously the best josei/shoujo i have ever read. For once, the girl
Spoiler (highlight to view)
HITS the guy and they get into a fistfight. I'm not kidding, they start brawling in school and neither of them comes out as the winner because the girl apparently took karate.

The cover is misleading, the guy is not abusive. If he were the girl would probably kick his ass.

There is sex in here but its not shown explicitly(theres a little boobage but thats all) and its not draw arousingly.

Just because she did that(fought with the guy) bumped my rating up like 2 points. You should read this, its really good. The characters make sense and the pairing of the two characters in chapter one make me laugh.

It's like the behind-the-scenes of some people. Well this definitely was worth reading, it's four stories in the same environment, we have negishi and arai, ruri and ishii, maki and shiina(?, kinda forgotten that guy's name) and atsuko and seiji. To me I loved negi and arai's story, it's not as hardcore as atsuko and seiji and maybe not as mild as maki and that guy's story, it's in the middle, they just one sweet couple to me, I love the part where arai went protective over negi, that, I applaud him, oh yea man she's only for you to see, and negi's interest in violence well she just really loves arai and wanna feel more, maybe leaving a scar to show that, everybody's way of loving is different, I'm just happy arai understands her...slightly better now...I think. the atsuko and seiji' story is some crazy mental love, though seiji's actions are detestable but he did it all for atsuko, and maybe atsuko doesn't know that, and knows only all the dirty things he did, she still loves him deeply and he loves her too, and that togashi can't break their love, don't think he really loves atusko, didn't fight for her at the end, cheh~ so their love is solid to me, that's cool. The student teacher love haha well it's ok, it didn't left much a great impact to me, the funny scene was when the teacher said, "I feel like I can trust your promise, I guess I really am a romantic" that page and the page after, I just kept flipping between these two pages haha it was cute sweet funny I really loved how they suddenly looked at each other so cute! Maki's story was just one chapter so it's totally not enough for me to understand more of her and him, but I guess it's good too.

I really liked the stories surrounding the 2 main characters but I couldn't bring myself to even read the teacher/student one. It just really grossed me out, especially since he was old and had a kid.

awesome.

though it deals with sexual things it didnt oversexual everything or made sex its selling point. what drew me in is the characters and the extent that they go for the one they like.. though most of it is using sex and their body.. WAIT! suddenly realization..
but anyway.. i can really relate to the characters since im in this phase of my life, "Maybe its because your going through puberty", as one of the characters said. it was cool.
everything here is half true, or maybe slightly exaggerated but still theres truth in it.
i cant wait for the next chapter!~!

>edit<
just finished.. and wow are they horny! but truth be told we are all like that or maybe have been like that at least some part in our life so i guess.. this is just honesty though i dont completely agree on the decisions that they make or using sex as some kind of currency to make guys love them but yeah.. its somehow captures your feelings you know!~! XD i'll rate this up.. from 8 going to 9 smile

I liked the first two characters especially. I think they are awesome.
Some of the others characters are just sick LOL
This manga is realistic, maybe a little bit too dramatic in the emotions it shows but this is how we felt in our young years.
One of my fav manga !

My heart was KNOCKED OUT

It feels like George Asakura knows her audience and the people in her stories so well. From Negishi, Arai to Ruri, the Sensei, Maki, Shiina, Seiji, Atsuko, every bit was just part of wholesomeness.

I could not stop myself laughing out loud at the part where Arai accidentally passed by seeing Ruri and Sensei hugged. Man, his face was stoned, stoned bad. Haha, and his thoughts oh I didn't see this, I pretend like I didn't see this was just the cherry on top of this outrageously creative manga. I was so wowed by the cleverness in "A Perfect Day for Love Letters". Now I'm even more awed at seeing prolonged version of Asakura's short stories. She's simply a genius at writing these middle to high school love stories. She understands lives there so well. That sometimes, I just might gasp, hey I didn't notice these feelings when I had them. She uncovers those beneath the many layers inside her reader hearts and truly knocks them out.

I prefer this and "A Perfect Day for Love Letters" over "Oboreru Knife" you know. They are just packed of love, of tension, of surge, of sweetness, and of everything in just one chapter, one volume. And you feel so satisfied after reading such fine works of both story and art.

I became appreciative of George Asakura even more after this. And mind the rating, you can kiss my arse goodbye from now. For her case only. For her works only.

If you think you have already seen real and authentic picture of teenage reality, then think again.
You should try with this piece, some things will become clearer...and will seem silly, but actually are not.

"Happiness is only real when shared" with the people around who you feel the safest and yet again the most uneasy smile

Grounded in reality

I tried reading this manga a year back and remember getting grossed out and unable to continue. But this is one manga which needs some amount of maturity to get used to. Unless you can handle some mature topics, don't read this.

That said, I loved it this time around because of the truth which the teenagers' raging emotions portrayed. George Asakura has done a fabulous job understanding and delivering the lives of tweens and teens. Some chapters may focus completely on sex, but so do the lives of some teens.

I have a soft spot for student-teacher relationships. So needless to say I loved the Ishii x Ruri pairing. Ishii sensei has been actually drawn as a middle aged man. It's pretty obvious that he's balding too. That's one thing I loved about the manga. Further, he's not some lolicon.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Yes, they had sex once but that was Ruri's fault. He refuses all advances after that and decides to wait.

The reason why I am reducing the rating by a point is because I still don't get Seiji and Atsuko's relationship. I feel that there should have been a continuation to it.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I get that Seiji's a troubled child and everything, with his parents committing adultery and Atsuko is the only anchor he has. But, I still can't forgive him for making money out of Atsuko. I feel sorry for Togashi too. He liked her so much and she cut him off for seiji. It didn't make sense logically speaking.

Anyway give this manga a shot. You won't be disappointed.

love the realism
by Suiren-nyan

The stories remind me of the time I was in junior high (I'm 25 now), this is why I love this manga - because of realism. Of course not all junior high studens are sexually active (I wasn't either) but there certainly are many girls/boys like that, and I'm kinda bored of all those romantic and innocent shoujo manga where senior high school studens make a big fuss because of a kiss (sex isn't even mentioned). Often it's not realistic, especially when the manga's characters are supposed to be popular, beautiful, etc. which means they were getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex since they started puberty (or earlier).

I really enjoyed the teacher/Ruri story. For the first time I read a story where there is such big age gap between the characters, one of them being a teenager, and it isn't gross, it isn't about using the young person. I think the story is beautiful, actually (it's not pedophilia, so drop it - Ruri is not a prepubescent child), the teacher really cares about Ruri.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The time he had sex with her (and it's the only time he had sex with her) was when she almost got herself gang raped (purposely!). She is an immature girl, she acted like that to get his attention, and there was no telling what she will do next.
So I totally disagree that the guy is a disgusting pedophile etc etc

The characters of this manga are very human, emotional and immature, as junior high studens then to be. I really enjoy seeing their struggles. I think Gorge Asakura is an amazing author, really good at writing young teens (I have also read her Oboreru Knife).
