I'm actually quite surprised by all the negative reviews here. Death Note is one of my favourite mangas of all time! Yes, it's misogynistic. Yes, Light is a huuggee asshole. Yes, it becomes lame after but still! I don't think there has ever been a manga that has kept me as on edge as this one.

The battles between Light and L, not as Kira but as Light himself with him trying to prove that he's not Kira, Oh My God. It was suspenseful and damn exciting. Every time you thought "Oh so maybe this is gonna happen" BAM! Ha! Think again! Completely unpredictable. It also made you think a lot, philosophically. Light might have thought himself as God trying to bestow justice upon everyone and the world might have become a little safer thanks to him, but at what cost? . He could be described as an extremely intelligent sociopath. The sad thing is though, if he had never found the death note, he could have grown up to be a great police officer without hurting anyone.

L on the other hand is my favourite character. He represents true justice. If you look at both Light and L, they have extremely similar personalities with their manipulative nature and desire to outwit each other. I think L was the key appeal to the series, because I personally thought it became damn boring . . I didn't like Near very much. It seemed like he was trying too hard to be better than L, which could never happen. L's habits are also really hilarious, like the desert thing and the way he sits. I LOVE his design too, the shaggy hair and the bags under his eyes.

The series is great. It's very well planned is what I can say. I can't even imagine how the author thought of such an intricate and well balanced plot. The characters are extremely complicated and interesting.

My only problem is that Kira somehow gets things done almost too easily. The characters feel dumb when they're actually intelligent. Sometimes it made me feel dumb too. It also practically killed all the main female characters with the exception of the most annoying one. Misa Amane, ugh. I really don't get her role in the story except going "Kya! Light!"..

My opinion, great shounen! Lots of action, brilliant plot, very interesting characters and an awesome chase. It falters a bit but do read it. I loved this one. I watched the anime and have to say they did an incredible job as well! So don't miss out on that if you don't wanna read. 37 suspenseful episodes. Ho It doesn't completely live up to the hype, but it's lovely nonetheless.

It's an amazing manga, you can't take your eyes of it until you finish reading everything you've downloaded (and then you start crying because you don't have more to read haha). It's like a modern version of the cat and mouse chase, featuring Raito owner of the Deathnote (officially named "Light" :S) and "L" who is a misterious teenager detective, these are two of the most clever characters I've seen in any manga. In any case this series, is a "must read", from the same artist of Hikaru no Go, it promises to be equally (or more) good up until the end.

and to think that this is a manga with a dark hero....bleh

This is by far one of the best manga I've ever read. Yes, the plot does tend to drag and lose its sparkle close to the end but the sheer brilliance of the power plays, the concept, the writing, the plot and character development makes this manga truly top notch and a must read.

This manga will enthral and entice with it's psychological twists and turns, the dark atmosphere and tone, the lacking presence of a true protagonist. Kira, our main character, is as flawed yet perfect as they come and while it is impossible to sympathsize with him, you cannot help but cheer him on. His persona appeals to the dark, the ambitious, hidden away and inner desires of all of us, unleashed through a chance opportunity to become God himself. There are moments when you cannot help but draw parallels to yourself.

The artwork is beautiful. I really recommend everyone to try reading it. Despite it's flaws it'll leave a deep impression long after you're done.

I would like to share my opinion about this manga....
This is one of best manga ever written.
And I love Obata Takeshi's artwork!
The story is really psycho n dark, and I love it. I also love villain as the main character. And Kira is bishounen too. Way too cool...
It's revolutionary manga.

Ah, Death Note. One of the greatest psychological mangas, if not the best (as I have said in others, best is an opinion.)This story is truly captivating, a story of a person who gains an ultimate power over people. In the end, it is a powerful tragedy as well. It is a classic, a must read for even those that can't stand darker mangas. It is a manga that speaks to all about dealing with the darkness in our hearts and what happens if it goes out of control. Truly a great and sad story.

Seriously guys, this manga is amazing. the characters are so unique and interesting! I mean, how often is the main character the bad guy? The storyline is incredible. It's just...wow. It definatley makes you think! I actually really liked the second arc as well. If anything, I thought the Yotsuba part was a bit boring. Book seven was just...wow. It was a very interesting twist. I think most people don't like the Mello/Near arc because of...yeah, you know. But really guys, that's NO reason to stop reading. Way to many people stopped. But there's so much that happens in the rest of the series you just can't miss! The ending was decent, could have been better, but I think it still fit well. Overall, this is an amazing manga I'd reccommend to anyone!

Nice psychological/thriller manga. L arc was perfection but after that it sort of went downhill. Art is great with a nice attention for detail and the plot is tight and intense. Its just too bad the same level couldn't be maintained throughout the manga. Good read nonetheless.

The storyline is a page turner. It is one of the best storyline out there and will have you keep reading until you are done with the manga. The plot is intense and it'd leave you mindblowing at the thought process of the mangaka. The battle of wits were so well done that its more action packed than any action manga out there. But, as many pointed out, the manga looses its appeal at that 'certain' point. If it wasn't so, this manga would easily one of the best one out there. (it still is one of the best, though)
