Description
In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical "auto-mail" limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his brother and himself... the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

I can't believe I was busy keeping up on Bleach and Naruto when this gem was there all along. I had watched about 3/4 of the first anime series and never got a chance to finish it, and never got a chance to watch the Brotherhood remake, but I had been wanting to read the manga for a while. Just finished it and it was an amazing ride. Read it, you will not be disappointed.
This is my favorite manga ever!!!! It's just sooo creative. The drama, the tradgedy, the comedy, the awesome action scenes, and the hidden romance. It's just the best ever. I wish this manga doesn't ever end. I mean, lately it seems to be nearing the climax. Does that mean it's going to end soon 
I hope not!!! I want another 15 volumes if possible!!

This is a must-read for everyone and anyone! Both the anime and manga are great, them being different sort of adds something to the story because there are two versions. The manga is very funny. But you have to do both.
But if you are planning on watching the anime WATCH THE JAPANESE VERSION. Subbed or raw. Don't watch it in English. The voices are terrible.

I found it to lack overall impact. I found myself unable to suspend disbelief shortly after the beginning. At the same time, a lot of people really resonate with this manga. Give it a look through at the book store if you have a chance.
I insist that you start from the very beginning itself. True the anime was wonderful and all that, but the storyline differ a lot. Pick out yourself when the anime and manga truly separate itself as they have a different story in mind when they started out. As the manga is still ongoing, its good to keep the entire volume of the series so you can refer back or just reread it again at anytime. Its truly a manga that you can't get bored rereading.
I loved this series at first (probably up to the part around where Sloth is introduced), but the initial and primary objective, getting their bodies back, became a secondary objective.
I enjoyed the tragedies and philosophies expressed in this series and, most definitely, the earlier storyline of this series.

It is cool with me that using human sacrifices is not an alternative. I did not like how the primary objective changed to saving the world and how suddenly antagonists became protagonists (fat and slim chimeras join the Elric brothers just simply because there exist a possibility to become normal again without knowing fully or close to it on the how's or they were completely lacking of intelligence). These changes need to be more gradual or for strong, touching motivation/justification (the ones in the past chapters were not enough for me).
I enjoyed the tragedies and philosophies expressed in this series and, most definitely, the earlier storyline of this series.

one of my favorite manga even though the relation with the manga it is practically nonexisting. you can understand so many things that with the manga you couldn`t get. and also you can see more sides regarding the personality of the characters.
Good Plot...good Characters...quite an artwork...but there is still something missing... definetly better than anime...
FullMetal Alchemist definitely deserves a ten. The drawing style is, first of all, fantastic. Second of all, the story is unlike any I've ever seen before. It is unique, interesting, and well detailed. It may not be as popular as other shounen series, but it definitely is better than most.
this has got to be the best manga i have ever read! i have not seen the anime so i can't compare it but i can say one thing: the plot is great. it will leave you on the edge of your seat every time.
