it appears to me that the art looks so bad because the scans are overlevelled; ie the tonal range of the image has been compressed too much; light greys have been made white, dark greys have been made black. levelling needs to be done on many scans because they come out of the scanner too grey (washed out) overall, but one needs to be careful not to do it too much. could also be that these started out as chinese scans, which are printed on cheap paper that doesn't take the ink as crisply, which loses detail; and if you then level those too much, the end result looks like crap.

but yeah, the badly scanned art (not talking about june's version here) didn't help make this set of stories work for me. i don't think that they would have worked with better scans though; i think this was kusaka's first published work, and her storytelling skills aren't practiced enough yet. the first story bored me. and with the second story, the basic idea started out nice, but i didn't entirely understand why anri got so agitated after breaking stalker-boy's nose -- he damn well deserved it, and so did the teacher anri had knocked out years ago. that's a weird attitude to blame the victim for defending himself, though it's not the first time that i've seen this in manga. it's not like he used deadly force, so i don't get it -- maybe it's a cultural thing.

I could tell the storyline/plot was good an i usually like this mangaka but all the pages looked like sketches, like they werent finished and very rough and i couldnt tell what the HECK was going on. Were they having sexing or eating out at a restuarant? Was he giving him a blow job or reading a book? The world may never know.
