From Manga Abyss:
In the world of Kabuki, where family social standings are highly valued, Kyonosuke is inept even though he is born as the son of a duke of a famous household. Ichiya while being born in a family that has no connection to Kabuki, is trying to move from the absolute lowest rank to the top using just his ability. Through some kind of karma, these two completely opposite boys have fallen in love with the same girl, Ayame.
That’s where the story begins.
Kyonosuke, who wants to be liked by the Kabuki loving Ayame, cries tears of regret because he would throw away all his powerfu... More...

I read a couple of Shimaki Ako's works before and knew for sure the art work was in good hands when I started this series.
At first, I was a little bit hesitated because her mangas were usually very much a like in term of the feelings they gave off to her audiences (me!) But then I tried it for the first volumes and thought: oh maybe this will be a bit different, focusing more on kabuki, the acting and technique and stuff. But NOPE! Sorry, it's the same sort of hover-arounds which I believe will exactly be like the ones I read - which I must emphasise again, they gave off annoying and stubborn and dilemma feelings that I especially disliked about her works.
I read a bit of spoiler online, the son from the distinguished family get it all. And although it was said their feelings were mutual. I feel so fucking sorry for Hiro-kun! ;_;
And I just don't get why common senses are so difficult to get through manga characters. URGH!

When you think about it the story is really simple. An immature guy who had everything in his hands but still actually nothing falls in love with a girl who gives him that something, but that girl is uninterested and is in love with his rival, the one who has nothing but actually has everything, or something like that. But there is the Kabuki factor, the wonderful art, the likeable characters and the great storytelling from Shimaki sensei.
I've read some of her works before and some of them were good, but mostly they were forgettable. She's improved a lot and I'm definitely more interested in her and her works now than I was years ago. I'm glad I picked this up. I only wish that there will be steadier releases because it is a shame that it's been almost a year but nothing from the scanlators. I hope they have all the help they need. I'd help but I have my hands full with other scanlations.

I've never watched a Kabuki play before...but I hope that I could someday. Especially after seeing mangas having the theme. It always intrigued me how the plays are in real life...
After reading this manga, the feeling awoken once again...and I want to really watch one soon.
Anyways...
I've ALWAYS loved Shimaki-sensei's works...not only do they have a smooth art, the plot can be somewhat shaky yet solid at the same time. But most of her heroines weren't that great though...they always seem to look dumb and has no other character but to be the damsel-in-distress, and the good-looking main protag will always LOVE her with all his loyalty.
But now, after reading 3 chapters of this work, I thought to myself: "Whoa, she can actually pull an amazing, smart heroine off if she wanted to."
She is not indecisive; although she retains the loyalty at the beginning, I can hope she finds the right one she will really love for a life-time. I mean, sure, one can stay and love their childhood friend, but sooner or later you will fall in love with the person you think will be the right one. I like that loyalty, she proved me well that once she's set on something, she'll stay with it. I mean, she wasn't head-over-heels with the main male as soon as the story started. Also, she doesn't look plain. She's actually really pretty, and cute. And on top of that, she's level-headed.
Haha, you can prolly tell from that that I really do like her...
This time too, the main male protag is an obnoxious, selfish, spoilt, richie-rich. A different kind of main-male from sensei... Coz she usually makes the main-male the princely yet kind-hearted, loyal ones. And would seem more like a KNIGHT rather than a PRINCE...hehe
But hopefully, Kawamura will change...I don't mind that he retains his ego though...for a humourous effect. Hehe
I have no complains about the art. It's smooth as always...and I love the character designs. Especially Ayame's. :'] I can tell she's pretty strong...and hope she will retain the headstrong outlook.
And I REALLY, REALLY LOVE the Kabuki drawings...so DETAILED. And especially that this manga is Kabuki-themed...that's why I'm starting to really like it a LOT. More than her other works, probably...but I'm not too sure yet since this is still the beginning of the story. Might wait until it gets a volume or two...
So, never gonna rate this yet...I'd have to wait for the ending. (and I know it'll take awhile, but oh well)

This is my first manga with a narration from the male lead, but that's not the only thing that's refreshing. The girl is strong and the story is sweet. No ridiculous annoying cliche so far. Looking forward to more!
Good start and the kabuki bit makes this worth checking

The premises and especially the setting are interesting. Shimaki-sensei already did dab a little into the traditional Japanese stage arts and costumes before, plus she's very good at drawing kimonos and elaborated period clothes. The kabuki element brings out some of her best artistic qualities.
The characters also seem a bit more layered than in her other stories. The girl especially, which is a very good thing in my book . I hope she can keep the narration tight and the dynamics believable, as she tends to lose direction in multichaptered stories.
