Chapter 20 what the hell was rhat
Manga overall was a 6, artstyle was so good, but after chapter 40 the story feels like it drags along.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
what the hell was that ending. So despite everything, god is like imma commit suicide and everyone dies

This manga really reminded of gantz a bit. Regardless if ur in foor the art and original story go on ahead, but it feels like it drags on at some points and the quality of writing is not as great as his other works

If Death Note shows you how to portray smart villains, Platina End shows how not to.

It seems I'm going to be the

contrarian
reviewer here.

I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. I have no complaints since I understood and

loved
Mirai's character from chapter one. He's quite a kind character. He isn't like any other stereotypical pacifist, and I'd say he's a nicely done character.

Of course, for some readers, he's not the MC they expected for a shounen, but he's perfect for the main concept, and I personally find him better than many other characters that pretend to be pacifists but contradict themselves so many times. Mirai is great.

Also, I don't know why so many people are so perplexed by the

. Ohba practically

foreshadowed it in chapter one
.

Maybe, to appreciate this manga more, you might have to read certain books that clearly influenced Ohba.

Well, I'll just say it: I LOVE THIS MANGA.

Boring and shallow
by Jeffu

Platinum End biggest problem is that it doesnt know what it wants to be, does it want to be a battle royal? A philosophical manga where the main themes are explored through conversation? And not only that, but the biggest miss steps was having so many kids as the mcs, I know its a shonen manga and you are supposed to have young people as part of the main cast, but the adukt characters were often the most interesting of the bunch.
The art is good i guess but it can get really confusing on battle scenes with all of the speed lines being puked into the panela to convey the speed of the actions and also the fights are really flat and they only work because the mc is a dumb fucks who refuses to use the white arrow and thats another thing, the mc goes from suicidal to enjoyer of his and everyones lifes in a flash.

TL;DR: the manga wants to talk about grandiose topics but fails at every step, the action is bad, the characters for the most part are boring and the only redeeming quality is the art, skip this one

It's a shame

Contain spoilers
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The first part was interesting. It felt like the story was going to be a battle royal, and since this is from the author of Death Note, I thought it would have strategies and mental games about who can outsmart who. However, that wasn't the case. Both protagonists (the boy and the girl) are not anything special in terms of wisdom, strength or ideologies, they are too plain and dull.
For the second part (after the main antagonist is taken care of) is a downhill. The battle royal is over and the contestants stop killing each other. The dynamic change bur for the worst. The new characters are boring and they don't bring anything exciting to the game or the story. If it wasn't for the scientist at the end, this would have been a drag (and it kind of was).
I like the idea of making a debate about theology, god, humans and religion the last objective of the story. But if the author planned this from the beginning, why making it with the dullest, most generic characters ever?
If only he had added by this point: an atheist, a cult member, a misanthropist, a philanthropist, an religious fanatic, a person with GOD COMPLEX, this would have been the bomb. Because we could have had different and opposites points of view that could have made the debate more dynamic and real. But instead, we have characters that we don’t even know that well (the new ones), all of them have super similar and simple points of view, they all reach a conclusion almost unanimously, and no one dies (by a fight at least).
In conclusion, some ideas were really cool and fresh (the death game, different ideologies about god and the role of religion, abuse of the power the angels gave them, etc), but the execution was not satisfactory.
A shame.

Bad execution of a good premise

There are some good ideas here and the art is definitely gorgeous, but everything else is kinda meh. Worst offender for me is the MC. The MC is so generic, so childish, so shouneny, that makes me cringe every time he opens his mouth and spouts juvenile gibberish. He exhibits zero growth. Also, too much talk. People just talk endlessly about their worldviews repeatedly, which after you heard it for the 20th time inevitably ruins the character. It is boring. Next time show, dont tell. The first main villain was decent, then it gets downhill from there. Action scenes are fine, given the limited arsenal of powers. This could have been a good dark story, but sadly it ended up mediocre.

More like NOhba

Ohba has great ideas for manga, and no idea how to execute those ideas. The premise was interesting enough that I read 36 chapters, but then they kept introducing these asinine villains, until we get to the anime child villain whose motivation seems to be "I do bad stuff for fun." The childish villain is one trope I absolutely can't stand, so I quit. It seemed like the story was leaning towards revealing something about the true nature of the contest, but honestly, I stopped caring. It's full of characters who range from offensive to mind numbingly dull and interminable fight scenes with characters arguing about their worldviews and explaining their every motivation as they go. Oh yeah, the main character's personality can also be entirely summed up by his repeated one-dimensional insistence that he wants to be happy and everyone should be happy. It sucks even more than Death Note somehow and Ohba doesn't know how to write good manga.

It had potential?

The concept of the manga, was pretty good. However I just dropped it after a while. You can say the characters ruined it for me.

The main character was too weak mentally, and did the stupidest stuff. He was a pushover whenever the girl he liked was involved. The MC just made me drop the series, even when I did go a few chapters ahead and try to see if there was a change in his character.

I really like the mangakas, both of them, and I like dark stories like this, but this wasn’t really what I hoped for.

I didn’t give it a awful score, because I do like the art style of it. The idea was good, but the characters killed it for me.

A total waste of time

When I started to read this manga I expected something like Death Note, of course not as good as that, but at least enjoyable. It turns out that my expectations were a bit too high, way too high.
Not much to say about the story, as usual we have supernatural elements like in Death Note, but this time we're talking about angels, that are searching for a person to become God! Naturally the chosen ones will be granted some (boring) powers and they will have to fight to death, because "there can be only one". If the premises seem good enough, it's in the characters and in the story itself that this manga falls so badly.
There are many more interesting manga to read out there, even if there's the art of Obata sensei it's not really worth your time (or money).
