As a preteen girl I avoided reading this title like a plaque, because it looked very childish and silly to me (strange, I didn't like stuff for children while being a child myself). When I grew a bit older and finally read this manga, I totally could appreciate it much more than I thought I would, as this title really deserves. If you like romantic manga then you can't miss this old title.
Perhaps I'm giving it a ten also for the nostalgic value, but nevertheless this Shoujo manga was one of the best, memorable ones ever made. Maybe some parts were a bit dramatic and soap opera-ish especially considering the 'bad guys' but really, never mind these unimportant details. Btw I'd like to comment on that description from wikipedia: Anthony was not really her first love, and this is one of the things that make this title so good, it's well planned and well executed. Perhaps most older titles are like that, because mangaka of that time didn't receive any pressure to drag like mad or to go around in circles until they forgot the original plot, maybe? Anyway this manga really started and more importantly ended strongly, I loved the fine ending after so much tears had been shed ;_; (I mean shed by Candy, ahem). I don't need the ending to be any clearer, it's already very clear. The mangaka just left the rest of happy details for us to imagine.

i really liked this when i read it as a child but i honestly hated the ending.
the whole story was a little too dramatic and tragic for me, but that's probably why it's considered to be such a classic

this is a classic shoujo, just as classic as the cute art itself. it is a bit tragic, but not to the point that it made me cry, it it had a wonderful twist of and ending.

I'm starting to read the manga... but I watched the anime when I was 5. It was so beautiful and sad! She grew in me.
I just didn't like how she went on about terry and how they never met!

A very sad story, at least for me. But still it has the most enlightened moments that will make you love this manga. The ending was really surprising, I wish there was more of this manga, since it ended really suddenly...

I thought this story was going to be a fluff piece given its title but the story is well-written, with a wealth of likeable characters, and is full of comedy, romance and drama. The art is a little dated but this manga is really engaging, spanning from Candy's youthful days to her coming of age (slightly like Anne of Green Gables manga-style).
my aunt loves this show or used too though i havent read it or watch it but it a really cute story.
