At first, it's empathy, knowing that the boy Yamato has his sights on is definitely straight and has no idea. But as his own friendship with Yamato develops and the two of them grow closer through a mutual study group, Yuiji comes to truly care about Yamato as a person, regardless of his sexuality.
He only wants Yamato to be happy, and to be able to express his true self.

*sigh* i really need to start checking out if the mangas are finished or not, because I just read this one as far as it got and now I want so much more...
Also, keep in mind that this is a shonen-ai. While this is really amazing because the plots are usually better (the development is slower and more careful), it also means there isn't a lot of physical contact. I don't particularly mind when there are no explicit sex scenes, but I do wish the authors would at least tease us a little.
I can't say too much about this manga yet, because at some point the mangaka did say it was going to be another 3 volumes before she wrapped up the story, so there is probably a lot that's still going to happen.
I do like how little details are carefully done. All the characters are really well developed, even secondary ones. Hasegawa and Yamato are very realistic, with deep thoughts that are logical. The actions the characters take are also very real, too. Even the girls aren't as annoying as they usually are in yaoi manga.
The art fits well with the style of this story - which I'm starting to realize is one this author's characteristics. She writes about complicated matters (such as coming to terms with your sexuality, in this case) in a way that is light and easygoing. While I am one to go for drama and really angsy stories that make you hurt and cry all along, I kind of like the way she makes it seem very deep without making it over the top. The art is like that too. Simple, yet something about it is just meaningful.
I also never thought I would say this, but the pace of this manga is a little too slow for me. While I usually adore stories that take their damn time to unfold, and I do understand that adolescence is a difficult phase, especially for a gay person, I wish she would have spent half of those chapters on their thoughts (as the chapters are also very long) and more on...going forward? At this rate, I don't even know if Hasegawa and Yamato will fall in love with each other, or if they will just help each other through their difficulties with love and find their own happiness - which I would be EXTREMELY upset about.
I just need more before I can make up my mind about it. It seems to be lovely, but it could go bad if not taken into consideration.

Not being a yaoi or shonen ai fan, I have to say this one is pretty good.
Friendships and acceptance is a big theme in this manga.
The story is about homosexuality, but treat it as one of many issues high schoolers face, the problem with being different in that period of your life, trying to be accepted by your friends but your fear towards them by the idea they discover you, what society or your family might think.
The main guy doesnt seem to be gay, which I appreciate, but when the gay became the lead in some chapters, is good reading his thoughts.
This is refreshing and interesting. I really recommend this even If you dont like homosexuality mangas.

The art is so beautiful! And the characters and the plot and everything! The characters are so likeable and they're there for each other. The friendship in this is so sweet !
The characters have realistic reactions to the sexuality, Hasegawa's reaction in fact remind me of my own, before high school I never really thought about people or myself not being straight because everyone around me appeared to be, my family are still quite traditional and find everything else 'unnatural' so it was quite an eye opener to meet people of different sexualities in high school and I gradually became more open minded. I also don't believe that sexuality is that restrictive/inflexible, sometimes people are blind to other people that could be great partners simply because they don't expect/think that it could be possible, there's also the thing that if you fall in love it should be with the person, not their sex. So although I like how Hasegawa and Yamato are purely friends right now, I don't think things would be unrealistic if it were to change, especially since the author is showing their building relationship gradually. Honestly, such a beautiful and deep manga, it's really good.
I definitely recommend it to others and I can't wait till all 3 volumes are complete.

This is one of the best BL I've ever read, if not the best. All of the characters are relatable and realistic. The conversations are extremely deep and the story centers on the characters trying to find out who exactly they are as they go through adolescence. Every character is a work-in-progress as they mature. Friendship, love and self-identity are equally important themes in the story.
Honestly, loving the story-telling and the characters as much as I do would grant this a 10/10, but the art is just as fantastic! Detailed scenes, beautifully drawn characters, and clean art make this a really enjoyable read as well. Add on how much story gets covered in every chapter without feeling rushed, Tagura Tohru has become a favourite mangaka of mine from this story alone.

Realistic relationships, realistic thoughts and the fact that there really aren't that many gay people around are realistically represented in this gem of a book. The author's note said that the story might be completed in 3 volumes.. I look forward to them.

This is one of the best manga I've read in my life, BL or not. All the characters are three-dimensional and sympathetic, even the girls. It's slow paced and dives deeply into showing what it means to be gay high schooler in Japan. Coming from a similar country, I've had a lot of the same conversations with my friends.
