Description
This could be any girl. Imagine being a heroine of a love story. Hatori also believed that one day she would get married to her childhood friend, Rita.
But that's not how the world works! This is a hilarious comedy that honestly paints a painful unrequited love story of this young girl!

You will love this and hate this at the same time trust me because i did. In The first half of the story i was pissed off with all the characters and even though i wanted to throw it i couldnt because deep inside i was hoping that it would change to the way i wanted, so i keep on holding on to it. I like how it ended, because i like the hero and the heroine from the very beginning but i dont like how the ending turned out for the supporting characters, i mean, those suppprting characters were very nice characters but why did they end up alone....? The ending was rushed but i like the story regardless.

I've always liked the manga, from the beginning. The main character, Hatori, is really original, I liked how the mangaka made her look like a bitch and 'ugly', unlike most of the shoujo manga that have weak, innocent and sweet/cute heroines. I think that the main character was also quite realistic, I don't know why people are calling her an airhead and such, she's a young girl in love, ofc she would do all of that for the guy she likes.
About the ending,
Overall, it's a great manga. You might get annoyed by some of the characters of the story, but it's worth a try, and it's not your usual shoujo manga. (Y)
About the ending,

they both (Rita and Hatori) loved each other from the beginning, so they had to end up with each other, right? Maybe it just needed lots of drama for Rita to completely understand his love for Hatori.

Alright so I finished it. At first I was really into this manga I mean, the main character was pretty annoying... actually.. really annoying and indecisive and selfish but I mean she's only trying to find happiness right? But it started going downhill after
Anyways, looks like it's 50/50 some people loved it, some hated it! I thought it was okay but definitely something I'd forget. Give it a try?

Rita fell in love with her. Are you effin kidding me?!
I mean of course I saw that coming, what else could fill up a 10 volume manga but Spoiler (mouse over to view)
SHE EFFIN CHOSE RITA IN THE END!
I mean that's completely just... what the heck man. I dunno just too much back and forth drama, same shiet too. I finished the manga with this face " -.- " Anyways, looks like it's 50/50 some people loved it, some hated it! I thought it was okay but definitely something I'd forget. Give it a try?

Those two idiots really belong together. Hatori and Rita.
There should be a solo story for Hiromitsu and/or Nakajima. The only two characters in the story that made any sense.

from the very beginning to the very end of this series, i've loved it all the way through.
i'm glad hatori isn't your typical protagonist and even though she didn't end up with the person the majority of the fandom wanted her to, she was happy and i think as the series progresses, that's what everyone wants for her to be the most (well, for me anyway).
i don't know guys, this manga was just great. i feel so upset that it's over but at the same time i feel so glad because she's finally found her happiness.
it's definitely worth a go! you won't regret it.

why one of the best manga?? Because the stupid leading girl makes her way to the end .. sometimes i just want to hate hatori for being stupid but that what makes her the heroine and i just keep loving her even thought she stupid. This manga is kinda realistic for me because we girls also wants to be a heroine in our own life right. I love rita for loving hatori so much and also i love the way that Hiromitsu kun changed because of love !! so thats why i love this story even if you dont agree.. keep up the good work KODA Momoko

You can't have bias about who will end up with Hatori(the main girl). If you just go with the flow you will understand the situation. It's good that this manga isn't typical and cliche. I've read about 100 shoujo and this is one of five that i will rate it 10/10.
I don't know whats all the hate. I mean she's being realistic and. Not boring like Kimi no Todoke or something of a sort. It must've been because ppl ALL ROOTING FOR THE SECOND MALE LEAD and ended up disappointed. I think the second male lead is so dislikable from the start so I always stick to Rita (right decision). Other than that, the setting and storyline are just EXCELLENT.
BTW I THINK THERE'S A SEQUEL Sensei Kunshu
for the one who's Team Hiromitsu - I think the author felt bad for killing such an unexpectedly popular character so she's trying to find a new love for him or something.

I don't get why people hate the protagonist so much. She's the most realistic girl I've seen in a shoujo manga. She's truly an average girl. Average girls are not mary sue's like adachi and every other shoujo heroine. There's a superiority complex in all of us, we think we deserve better than others, we get jealous, we hate, we question ourselves. So yes I really like the authors for having he guts to make a character who isn't kind and loving and sweet as a main character. Only thing I despise about the girl is her lack of commitment, going back and forth between guys tend to get annoying.

I started reading it because it has two crossovers with Hirunaka no Ryuusei, and I absolutely adore HnR. At first, I just kept hoping it would get better, but it never really did.
I'd like that Hatori has bad points more if she had any good points to balance them out. She doesn't, really. I'd enjoy watching her struggle if she learned anything from it, but she doesn't. All she does is think about Rita, or think about trying not to think about Rita. He's her entire world, and it's annoying at best, but just as often it's rather disturbing.
Rita started off okay, but once he started dating Adachi, Hatori starting pushing him, and he turns out to be wishy-washy and spineless, the kind of guy who hurts people because he can't make a decision.
A lot of people seem to dislike Adachi, probably because she's treated like a personification of the Perfect Shoujo Heroine trope. I haven't read to the end yet, so I don't know what happens to her, but I feel like Hatori and Rita are kind of ruining her. Adachi has dreams of her own, beyond being with Rita, and they're just dying.
Nakajima's great, though. If there were a manga with Nakajima as the heroine, I would read it so hard. And Hiromitu's all right.
I'll probably keep reading to the end, simply because I've gotten as far as I have, but at this point it feels like I'm just trying to beat it. I already know how it ends, having knowingly read a spoiler in another comment. I think knowing just keeps me from getting my hopes up.
Also, a note for those wanting to read the crossovers... They were both written after Heroine Shikkaku finished, so yes, they do contain a certain spoiler. Not that it's a surprising one, though.

Not like the manga was anything to write home about. I was already not liking the manga and decided to check out the ending to see if it was worth the trouble.
Serious end of manga spoiler
I don't like the heroine, Adachi, or Rita.
Hatori is an airheaded girl who thinks about nothing but guys. She's really wishy-washy and goes back and forth in between guys. I also dislike how she essentially forces her feelings on another person. If I were Rita, I'd think she was obsessed and crazy.
Adachi's the shoujo heroine cliche. She may be a caricature, but still annoying.
Rita's kinda like Hatori. Can't make up his freaken' mind. At first, I don't blame him for some things that "led her on." Rita and Hatori are still friends after all, and even if the other party likes you, as a friend, there are some things you just do. But some of the things he does is beyond the bounds of friendship and borders on plain possessive.
First it seemed refreshing with how it seems like Hatori being frank and noticing shoujo manga cliches. She's also kinda mean sometimes (which is okay in my book). But unfortunately, everything eventually fell right into shoujo cliches, even the ending.
