Description
From Kodansha:
A new academic year means new members for the lovably misfit Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture! Club president Chika Ogiue now has to manage a freshfaced trio of yaoi fans (one of whom dabbles in crossdressing), a surly American transfer student with a penchant for obscure anime quotes, and her own rising career as a professional manga artist. Can she actually find time to draw her own vanity project for ComicFest?

Genshiken hasn't changed at all.

Before we had male otakus and talks about ero-games and other male oriented media, now we have fujoushis (and one fudanshi) and talks about BL.
The style of humor is the same, there's enough realism about otakus, there is a mix of romance that wasn't absent in the first one and the new characters are fun and different while the old members are still present, growing up as characters and tying some lose ends.

For non-homophobic fans of the first series this is a must to read.

The first Genshiken was amazing. It was all about being an otaku and doing otaku things with your friends. This one is completely different, which is sad.

Genshiken 2 is about reading, writing, and talking about BL. In fact i would say this is at the very least shounen ai. Every chapter focuses on the cross dresssing character Hato who is obviously gay and loves Madarame. It's sad that Shimoku decided to stray from what made Genshiken great. As of chapter 79 there are very few similarities between the Genshiken 1 and 2.

And for the worse i'm afraid.
Genshiken was so unique, so interesting and appealing that it grew on me after countless attempts to read it. But i think nobody that deny that there is something that is just good in there, a true honest work. It wasn't perfect, there were a couple of characters that didn't cut it for me, but it was special nevertheless.
And now i look towards the 2nd generation and wonder what the hell is going on.
Ogiue is still on and some characters make a few cameos here and there. You can also see that Ogiue has matured and developed nicely, such must be the burden of becoming the new president. And yet why does this work fails to appeal to me?
Because simply put there is no proper development, just talking about BL and crossdressing and such. It just doesn't have that feeling.
Sue is the only saving grace at the moment.
Maybe i'll give it another go, in a very distant future.

its not that fun anymore
the only interesting girl in the genshiken universe is not in it
and the genshiken group is all girls...xpt a retard closset homo and a crossdressing boy who acts very much like a homosexual
so now all we got is BL humor
and a big breasted american with a handfetish

there is no story...no real goal for the group
the goals are just excuses for them to get together to have some form of sexual joke

i guess the first 9volumes had alot of sexual jokes too...but atleast there was story that was not just there for the purpose of having some sexjoke

10 chapters in and im starting to get bored
i give it a 5... coz i like the new loli...i like the crossdresser and i like madarame

I never really understood the allure to this type of manga. Maybe it's because I'm not a hopeless otaku or something. It's just boring watching people do stupid activities like they do in this series. This must be a manga for loser otakus that want the "ideal" otaku life. Then again, over half of all manga is based in a school setting and has someone with a presumably more exciting life than the reader's (if you consider school festivals and studying fun, that is). This series, and the prequel, sucks ass. You could, however, read worse.

After reading the prequel, we now witness a new set of otakus, mostly female, having different tastes! We also have recurring characters who have a large impact on the plot line. Reading it! And pray that Madarame doesn't fall for the trap! =)

Wohoo its back! I don't know how successful the new characters will be in replacing some of the old ones that won't get that much screen time now, but I'm willing to give it a chance of course!
