Then one day a 10-year-old girl named Haruka stops by and asks Shinichi for permission to take care of a stray cat in his garden. This young girl causes an unexpected reaction in him and he agrees. Shinichi learns that Haruka is an aloof and introverted girl whose parents are barely home: her father travels a lot and her mother is sick in the hospital. After meeting Haruka, Shinichi's editor Oogaki convinces him to use her as inspiration for a new romance novel. Shinichi isn't interested in Haruka in a romantic way, but he pities her because she reminds him of his tragic child self and his lonely childhood. Eventually, they develop an awkward friendship, and somehow they can't leave each other alone. What is in store for them? Why does the laidback Shinichi react this way to this young girl?

- while it makes a love story(maybe). It's more than okay.
The friends don't quite seem to be teasing that the girl has a crush on the guy and more pushing him into it, which doesn't quite make sense. Also, I felt it was unnecessary to so quickly establish that the girl has a crush.
The art has a nice bigness to it, and I like some of the zoomed in expressions.
I actually don't think the feelings are very explored but things are made easy to understand. The guy is pretty likeable and I don't think some of the shoujo tropes that sometimes annoy me are present at all. But he's also a bit too immature for his age to the point that it bends credibility, mainly because we're seeing the story from his point of view.
Another thing is that no one really struggles with how highly inappropriate/illegal it would be. Instead of saying that its a bother, it might have been more interesting for him to think about it a bit more, and about how to deal with it, with the audience being privy to it. Not to say he never realizes that it'd be viewed as possibly criminal.
It's not quite as serious as I would mind but I like the optimism in it. It isn't about fetishizing the little girl which is a big plus.

First off, it's NOT mutual love. So no lolicon stuff. Just a little girl's having a crush on an older man. It's kind of sweet, but true to reality. Even though I'm not hoping for a happy get together ending 10 yrs later. I pray for it will not be a tragedy, considering the amount of reality and dark past.

it really reminds me of Hana no Namae... (Oh yeah I like Hana no Namae so much)
IMO these are the same situation:
- Age gap (sure...)
- Older male, around 30s
- Far younger female (actually still girl ), age around 1x (15 for Hana no Namae, 10 here)
- The male's job is novelist, and the novel theme is dark
- Until he met the main female, they start to write romantic novels based on their story
- And the male deny that the novels based on their stories
- The girl is so beauty (wogh both of them adorableeee ^^ choukoooo <3 )
- The male is the first that being amazed when he looked the girl at their first meeting
- But then the first that falls in love is the girl
- Yet the man is trying to deny his feelings for her
- The male's house is the main place
- An editor that the main male's friend from school
- And sure, loneliness
but the difference is Chouko (female protagonist of Hana no Namae) had been in high school, but this is in a primary school...?! I like the story with this theme, but... the age gap between 30 years old man and a 10 years old primary school girl?! I can't imagine what will the author do in the future to portray their relationship as real as possible. But what I like from manga like this (I hope will happen in this manga) is how the author describe their deep feelings for each other, I'm curious to know ^^
For artwork, IMO it's not something that amazed me.
Oh yeah this so-far-gap was also happened in Usagi Drop, but in Usagi Drop it's just the gap that same as this. The plot, situation, and characters very different

please..it's way better than HANA NO NAMAE...that guy in HNN had dark aura underneath.
This one, I mean Shinichi is "pure"..or more likely had innocent side, he maybe had dark past too yet he's not a total psycho that pushes the girl away.
Don't be put off by the large age-gap..I guarantee you IT DOESN'T CROSS THE LINE OF
PAEDOPHILIA...It has character growth to watch out for.

The story is just slowly starting to unfold, so it's a bit slow. It's slow in a good way though. Slow not in a way where the author is buying time but in a way where you can just sit and watch the characters slowly grow.
It does get a bit uncomfortable with its themes whenever the male sees the girl as a older female. And right now there doesn't seem to be any sort of real conflict in the story.
I would like to see where the author goes with this, because just the relationships alone as it stands can not make a proper story. The problem with a story like this is that to have romantic tension, they're inevitably going to bring in the little girl into the story somehow, which is a little strange.

I think this manga is overrated. I don't understand how Morimoto fell in love so quickly with Shinichi. Really, she fell in love with a 31 year old man at first sight? Idk but when I was 10 I thought 31 was soooo old. Like unimaginable to fall in love with or even find attractive. I also don't like Morimoto that much. There's nothing that likeable about her. She has had a traumatic life that makes her relatable to Shinichi, but other than that I don't see why he likes her. She's a moody and quite uninteresting character... but to each his own. This manga was not my favorite, but others might find it absolutely fantastic and that's fine.

First time I read this I was...kinda bored. Started reading, first chapter or so was alright, main char seemed like he had an interesting background/characterisation but it's pretty much never expanded on or perhaps it simply wasn't as interesting as I expected. His friend is kinda a jerk for forcing this 'inspiration' on him and thinking it's a totally cool thing to do. Just didn't seem like the writing, or perhaps storyboarding, was...good. Ended up skim reading and then dropped it. Then deleted the chapters, and I pretty much never do that unless I consider a series a waste of time.
That was almost exactly a year ago (18th april). I came back to it a month ago, for some reason I was in the mood for a romance with an age-gap about some kinda damaged (definitely the wrong word, but the only that comes to mind right now) characters mixed with some guardianship. I was also procrastinating like crazy, literally marathoning the 35 chapters the night before a ~7 hour exam (got about 20min sleep) with no preparation so perhaps that affected my judgement somehow.
Anyways, point is, the second time around I...liked it. I like how the romance is actually quite fast for the girl's side. I like how...well, I don't know how to phrase this without spoilering :/
Perhaps if you don't like this series, find it boring/a waste of time like I initially did, you just need another frame of mind.
EDIT: The art is definitely solid, too.

Although I think this manga is pretty normal, but the story is pretty good. The transition from a small child growing up and climbing up to adulthood is rather interesting and it's nice to see that the characters are developing more and more in every chapter.
Although many people can't accept the age gap, but this is fiction, so it doesn't really matter (but what confuses me is that Shinichi and his gang still looks the same no matter how many years has passed by and the ones that are growing up tremendously is Haruka and her gang.)
Nevertheless, it's a good read. It's not the best, but it's still decent.

I do like this. The scanlations are up to chapter 34 or so. Even though, I feel that this is the kind of manga that can be ruined if it goes on much further than 10 volumes. All kinds of crazy drama and a long drawn out story could turn me off of this title quickly.

Indeed this resembles Hana no namae a LOT. (loved HnN) but its still very good. here I can picture the male falling for the girl when she reaches her teenage years, and Iam totally okay with it. Its totally different from Usagi drop simply because in Usagi Drop, the male and the female are like father-daughter
The artwork is quite pretty and I like the male guy a lot, he is not a pedo (yet XP). The little girl is also adorable^.^
