Entertaining and different!

God, it's so good to see the bastards get what's coming to them, for a change! In many shoujo stories, the heroine's completely (and unreasonably) smitten with a guy that treats her like dirt. I was immensely relieved -- and highly entertained -- to find a spitfire heroine like Kyoko, who gets her heart broken but decides to trample on her heart-breaker's ambitions in return.

Skip Beat doesn't have amazing art, but what it does have is an interesting, involving story with a great heroine and wonderful side-characters. Absolutely everything about the plot is ace. I usually find shoujo series very hard to get into -- I don't get addicted to them the way I do to good shounen or seinen series. But Skip Beat definitely taught me that it's possible for me to be totally addicted to a shoujo manga. I wait for more updates like a dog in hea -- er, heart! (Heart? That doesn't make sense, but we'll ignore it for now.)

I love how atypical the romantic relationships are, here. The main character isn't being chased by beautiful guys all the time, and she doesn't immediately fall head over heels for the lead bishounen, either. Everything progresses naturally and at its own pace. Too many mangakas are too impatient or too immature to let their characters develop like this. Either that, or they don't have the creative stamina to really give their plots time to hatch... Let me emphasize that this isn't the case with Nakamura-sensei. The story unwraps itself like a present, with each climactic or comedic event delivered at the right time.

Really good stuff. Don't miss out on it!

skip beat is getting a little boring? the monthly chapters that used to come out were very good and decently paced, but for the past few months it seems as the mangaka is dragging the arc out and nothing is really happening... it's the same reaction from ren and kyoko sad even this weeks chapter was "ehh" it seems as though the characters are simply just at a standstill sad

I've read this manga up until volume 13 and I find that the story just keep lagging... I kept reading it to find some excitement... but none. I am kind of disappointed. The art was however good, a little funny... but not laugh out loud and my back hurts from laughing funny... but a silent giggle.

I hope it eventually gets good, but for now it's just barely hanging on to the 6 with me.

this is an amazing manga, because it was very realistic, where it shows the struggles of becoming a famous actor, and the concepts in the industry. Not to mention the characters that make you laugh and hate them at the same time.
NAKAMURA Yoshiki is awesome at making everyone laugh and drawing great bishies!

i highly recommend it biggrin

Definitely one of the best shoujo mangas around. I was skeptical about reading it at first 'cos I thought it would be the usual girly crap. Man, I was sure surprised by the refreshing storyline! It does not have the regular (read: annoying) sob scenes that you see in other mangas. The artwork may not be attractive at first but it will slowly grow onto you. I can't wait for the next book to be out!!!!!
